Was blessed to get the opportunity to play golf in the Saint George, UT area last week.

WOW. Black Desert is amazing. Definitely put it on your list.

Also played Sand Hollow the day before. This course blew me away as well, especially the back 9.

One of my favorite spots for golf. Economical, not too hard to get to, and many awesome courses. Will definitely go back.

Could you explain economical? At first glance some of those courses seemed pretty darn expensive and more resorts than golf clubs.

We've played St George twice during last 3 years. I believe we used Golf Zoo who put together the outings for 8 guys including lodging and 4 rounds of golf for less than $500 per golfer including Sand Hollow. One of the outings I believe was based out of Mesquite but included St. George courses.

Both outings were in September.

Perhaps it's more expensive now but certainly not like Pebble or Bandon where it can go above $3000.

You don't say. Well, as long as it's more affordable than Pebble!

When someone says it economical and the first course I look up is $250+, I'm confused. But that just appears to be Black Desert.

Sand Hollow appears to be nice and under $100. So does The Ledges.

Well *****.

Make it $750 for an outing to include Black Desert and Sand Hollow and it's still hella economical...

Hey Skippy, if you had to play either Sand Hollow or Black Desert, which one would you choose?

I had only heard of Black Desert because of all the advertisement and hype on the golf channel a couple weeks back with the LGPA and PGA futures stuff they were sponsoring.

Sand Hollow and The Ledges look just as nice. Just didn't have the expansive practice area and resort part. But also 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of Black Desert.

I played Sand Hollow a few years ago and absolutely loved it. Want to back and play it again and then also play Black Desert. It looks so good.

Are any of these courses a " resort stay required" or private? Would love to have a Wolf Creek, Ledges, Sand Hollow, and Black desert trip down the road.

Don't know about BD but the rest aren't resorts. Wolf Creek is stupid. Sure, do it once.

We stayed at a AirBnB type of house that housed all 8 of us.

Black Desert has tiered pricing for resort guests vs other based on their website.

I played with one of the owners at black desert. There is a huge resort under construction, as well as some residences. Once completed, the golf course will be limited to resort guests, or owners. There are also ~ 100 founder's memberships sold.

Play it as soon as you can. Once the resort is open, teetimes will be difficult and me expensive.

I know I'm going to be a year or 2 late in terms of beating the buzz, but our group is going to do St. George for our golf trip next April. Help me pick our third course. After talking to Black Desert it sounds like the resort is going to be finished this fall and at that point tee times will be resort guests top priority on tee times, and open for the public 7 days out.

  • Flying to Vegas and getting Wolf Creek on the way.
  • Sand Hollow next morning. Some of us will probably play the Links course in the afternoon too.
  • Copper Rock? Ledges? Coral Canyon?

I played Copper Rock a couple of weeks ago. Really good course that was in great shape.

Well the Sand Hollow pro shop people I talked to a while ago when planning our trip were not entirely forthcoming. When I asked about making tee times for our trip at end of April they told me 60 days out and nothing else I could do. Turns out groups of 16+ can do a year out and now our weekend there is pretty much completely full from group bookings.

I moved things around but I'm sure we'll still have a good time. Just disappointed to miss out on Sand Hollow

Just got back last night from St. George for our trip. Incredible views everywhere and perfect weather. Courses were fun and just a great laid back trip with the guys.

We only had 1 day of reasonable wind. Friday and Saturday were pretty outrageous. At Wolf Creek we had sustained 30mph winds and some big gusts. We had driver short iron into some par 5s and we had others we couldn't even reach the fairway.

We didn't have Black Desert on our agenda because they are closed for LPGA event, so maybe that would have taken the top spot, but we had unanimous agreement from our 12 that Copper Rock was the favorite. It is truly a must play. Pristine conditions and really fun layout.

what were your thoughts on ledges? we are renting a house there later this year so we can get discounted rates, but i'm not sure it will be worth playing when sand hollow, copper rock, black desert are also there.

WRONG, jk. But, I honestly put Ledges up against any of those. We actually enjoyed it more than Sand Hollow, barely. Ledges is a can't miss, especially if you're staying there.

Its certainly worth a play. I didn't think the course itself was anything overly special, but it had some of the best views.

Would have liked to get on Black Desert and Sand Hollow Championship, but we rated what we had as:

1) Copper Rock
2) Wolf Creek
3a &3b tie) Ledges / Coral Canyon
5) Sand Hollow Links

I'm not far off of that:

I'd go in this order

Black Desert
Wolf Creek
Ledges
Sand Hollow

we played a couple of the cheaper more in-town public courses for our afternoon rounds (few beers in so the quality/views weren't as important haha) and even the cheapies in town are super fun and great views compared to just about anywhere
