Wife and I are in Europe for a few weeks in July and the last stop is a longer layover in Dublin. We've been multiple times so we decided we might just spend a day or 2 outside of town (closer to Swords) and play a few local courses. Any recommendations?

Portmarnock is fantastic.

The Island was a fun course as well.

I personally hated the European Club. Just stupid hard.

2 hours north is arguably the #1 course in the world

Royal County Down

I'd do that

Read title and thought of Dublin Texas. Best I could come up with was Par Village on lake Proctor
God loves you so much He'll meet you where you are. He also loves you too much to allow to stay where you are.

2nd Portmarnock - and pray the wind is down or it's brutally tough. Think it was 45-60 min from Dublin but Druid's Glen is a fun track.

These look amazing, and I'd love to play either one while we're there for the Open in July. Sadly, it appears you all are much more well off than I! $500 per person to play a round is a bit steep for me. If anyone has any cheaper options they've played in Ireland or Northern Ireland, I'd love to hear.

Carne isn't as bad. I want to say maybe $200. But it's WAY out there. But freakin awesome though.

Yeah they're too rich for my blood, especially since my wife wants to play. Thankfully we visit Ireland every 4 years so we will get some of the bigger ones in the future

I've narrowed my list down to a handful of local course ranging from 30-60 euros. Plus we'll have to rent clubs.

  • Corballis Links
  • Deer Park
  • St. Margaret's
  • Forrest Little

Second Port Marnock _ not the resort course but the older one. And if you can take the time to get to Royal County Down - it is truly exceptional.

Newcastle a cool town too.

Wow. I played both Portmarnock and The Island in 2017. Portmarnock was $250 if I recall and The Island I know wasn't more than $200.

I was thinking Dr Pepper spiked with some corn whiskey from Handy Liquor at "The Dirties"
