Ok. Here is my recap of a great trip.
Day 1 - Landed in EDI at 10:00 and traveled to Old Course Hotel. Woke up every day to a sun rise over 1/18.
We were supposed to play The Duke's Course, we got there and it was a **** hole, Went to the Crail instead and had a blast there.
Day 2 - Dumbarnie Links - This course is underrated in my opinion. It opened in 2020ish, but had a greens issue and had to close for about a year, then opened up again just as covid started. Great views and designed to feel like you are the only golfers on the course.
Day 3 - Kingsbarns - I had tons of recommendations to play this, but I liked Dumbarnie Links better. Rates were comparable. Kingsbarns had more holes on the water while Dumbarnie was set back a bit and had more elevation changes.
Day 4 - The Old Course - I might get ripped for this, but with temperatures in the 60's and no wind, this course is EASY! Now, it was great remembering historic shots and the history of the course, but you are squeezed in and constantly were dodging golf balls from hack's behind us or on the New Course. While talking to the caddies, they hoped they would raise the rates as the quality of golfer they have on that course is ridiculous. 17 and 18 were a blast, but besides 1, 17, 18 it played like a pitch and putt.
Day 5 - Gleneagles (King's Course) - Another great time, much more challenging than The Old Course. We stayed on property and that hotel is top notch, heated bathroom floor tiles, towel bar warmers, white glove service everywhere.
Day 6 - No golf, toured Sterling Castle and the town of Sterling. Had a private dinner inside the castle and a band of bag pipers playing music as we left.
Day 7 - Departed
We stayed in Saint Andrews for 4 nights and Gleneagles for 2 nights. If I planned it again, I think I would split it 3 days at each and not play the Crail, but instead play the PGA Centenary course at Gleneagles.
If you have any questions about St Andrews, let me know.
Also, allergies are bad there this time of year and I had to go to a pharmacy to get Zyrtec to survive.
PS: Ensure you listen carefully when your caddie tells you a distance, 150 sound just like 130 and you end up 20 yards over the green
