We have a guys trip coming up and I have to pick our lineup.

Our first 3 matches are
2-man Shamble
2-man Best Ball
2-man Chapman

Hdcp's are 2.2, 5.8, 8.1, 10.2
No match can have the same lineup.
I figure Best ball I want best/worst paired together? (I think we are playing 80% hcdp)
Any idea on strategy for Shamble and Chapman? Do I take the 2 best for Chapman as I want to ensure the 2 hdcp isn't playing from the **** or taking a drop.

Rounds 4 and 5 are singles and 2-man Scramble. For the final match, Scramble, opposing team captain chooses the pairing for the other team. (I figure I put their 2 best together and their 2 worst together?

To me, this is WAY more about "how" they play than what their index is. The 10 may have a really good short game but be short off the tee and never in trouble. The 5.8 might be great one day and a disaster the next.

Need to look at more than just index.

There are some guys who I have never played with before so all I have is HC to gauge on until after 1 round.

Ten years from now you are going to remember the good scotch and or bourbon and the good cigars more than the golf.

Edit. I probably should have said that I hope youall have a great time with the golf. Obviously that's the axle of the trip. Just a geezer looking back on similar experiences.

Not trying to sound snotty.

if "Hdcp's are 2.2, 5.8, 8.1, 10.2" is the absolute only vacuum level data point you have, I would go 2&10 together and then 5&8 together, but I would try to gather more data before making the call.

heck, just talking to them should give you enough.

If you have their GHIN number you can look them up on the USGA GHIN app and check out their last 20 posted scores.

He's asking what match the 2 and 10 should play together in. They have three matches and you can't have the same teammates twice.

I initially leaned towards best ball. But giving the 10 the benefit of the 2s tee shots may make me lean towards shamble.

At the end of the day it likely won't matter too much how you do it. If the teams are even, then I would think you will have close to the same record no matter how you pair them.

Edit to add: actually I think I would lean best ball or Chapman. Assuming Chapman is alternate shot after you take the best tee shot?

Chapman is alt shot after the second **** which is from your partners drive.
