How long do you want to ignore this user?
Anyone recommend any good YouTube or online videos for someone just getting started? I've played very sparingly over the past few years and trying to start getting a little better. Also suggestions on good/forgiving iron sets and drivers. Thinking of upgrading. Would love to take a few lessons but don't have the time or location for that currently so trying to find some good online content. Thanks in advance.

My favorite on YouTube is Chris Ryan. There are so many instructors providing content on YouTube now that it can be a little overwhelming. If you watch a few different videos from different instructors about the same concept like grip, weight shift, swing path, etc. and you find common themes, stick to those.

If you don't mind spending a little money, AI apps are decent these days. They can take down the line and head on videos, determine issues, and suggest drills.

That sounds interesting, do you have a specific one you recommend?

I used ChatGPT to analyze my carry distances and accuracy stats around the green. It offered to provide a practice plan with drills to improve ball contact and wedge selection. Here's a sample:
Quote:

5. Focus Drills

Distance Ladder Drill (Carry Distances)
* Set up targets at 70, 85, 95, 105, 115, 125 yards.
* Use different clubs to hit these targets (not just swing harder/slower).

Step-Through Drill
* Helps weight shift and better contact, increasing consistent carry.

3-Ball Drill for Wedges
Hit:
* 1 ball 70 yards (GW),
* 1 ball 85 yards (PW),
* 1 ball 95 to 100 yards (9-iron or partial PW).
Rotate continuously. Improves feel and distance control on short approaches.

On-Course Strategy
* Play to carry numbers, not total.
* Club up on all shots over 100 yards, unless you're on firm ground and can predict roll out.
* Plan for more rollout inside 80 yards. Your GW might not stop quickly unless you increase spin or improve contact.
This was my opening prompt to ChatGPT:
Quote:

In my last two golf rounds, these have been the main issues in my game that have prevented me from scoring birdies or pars.
1. Not using enough club and approach shots that don't reach the green.
2. Inconsistent distance and accuracy from fairway woods.
3. Bad club selection, resulting in shots that are short or long and miss the green.
4. Bad wedge shots on chips and pitches that leave long first putts.
5. Missing makeable putts from 4-6 feet.

Analyze these issues and suggest drills and a practice plan to address each.

Saguto golf on YouTube is a good place to start. Goofy but not very technical and complicated teaching.

I have tried to swing like the pros but am more successful with a saguto style swing and recently have found Christo Garcia and have seen improvements using his method.

Sparrow was the one I tried and was impressed with. I think it doesn't have a free option anymore, but worth a shot for a few bucks.
