When I look for golf balls, I usually just go to academy or Costco and get the cheapest balls available that are from a brand I recognize. They usually work well, and I never feel bad about losing one. That being said, are there any go to golf balls that y'all recommend, and what makes them different from the rest?

Refurbished Titleist Pro V1 from academy. Never hit with any kind of launch monitor to see how different ones perform and I'm not consistent enough to blame the ball lol!

I like the Callaway chrome soft series. Srixon star series are also very good.

They play the same as pro v1s for me and are $10+ cheaper a dozen.

Yall are too good at golf. I love my Kirkland Signature balls. 35 bucks for 2 dozen, and they have great spin in my experience. Not the most durable to longest distance, but they are still really good.

Whatever yall hit into the woods and whatever my inlaws buy me for Christmas.

Other than the obvious Pro V, I like Bridgestone and Srixon.

Could be all mental but I play better with the TP5/TP5X, so I usually game those. I'll throw in some Pro V1's with that too.

Intimidating par 3 over water when my game is feeling off? Fetch from the mystery lost and found pocket. Is it a Nitro? Kirkland? Wilson? Luck of the draw baby.

If you want way too much information that will make your head spin, check out My Golf Spy's 2023 Golf Ball Test. There's so many factors to consider, and its definitely not one size fits all.

Whatever I find running near the golf course by the house, which is basically 50% ProV1s, 50% everything else

ProV1's typically, but lately have been hitting the Vice Pro.

I can't tell any appreciable difference and they're $22.00 less than the ProV1's.

I have bought golf balls from LostGolfBalls.com for years. You can select just about any type of ball and choose from A - AAAAA based on quality and newness.

I'm not good enough to play with brand new Pro V1s, so I'll just load up on cheaper ones from here

typically play with Bridgestone e6's. Cheap, soft, and no one in my usual group plays them. But I'll play any ball I find if I'm running low.

Wilson Zip. I've been playing these exclusively since last September. They're durable, have a soft feel, and play as straight and long as an e6 or Supersoft for about $1 per ball. Most forgiving balls I've ever played.

As you can tell, there is a variety of preference. I've gone from the Precept Laddie to Bridgestone e6 to Srixon Star series and now play Pro V1s. I feel like my game is good enough for the more expensive rock and I do think it plays better than the Precept or Srixon balls. The Bridgestones never left much of an impression on me. Final thought - play what you're confident with.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

I was a Bridgestone Tour B XS fan. Now I play the Taylormade TP5x.

Ideally, we should all play the ball that best suits our handicap and swing speed.

I just started using srixon ultispeed. I absolutely love them. Only down side is a lot of rollout coming into greens but the flight and feel for me are awesome

Used to spend the $$ for ProV1 but I recently tried these out due to sale at Dicks. Really like them

Me too. Our pro gave us samples when they first came out and I liked them from the start.

I'll still hit ProV1's and be happy to if somebody gives them to me. I've also hit Vice Pro Plus which I get pretty good results with as well.

For whatever reason, I avoid TaylorMade like the plague. Just never have worked right for me.

Pro-V1 or Taylormade TP5x.

I used to like the Srixon Z star, but not anymore. They changed something on the outer cover on them 4 or 5 years ago and I can't stand the feel of them now. They feel gummy and overly soft on contact. The distance(for me) with every club was 10 yards shorter than the Pro-V1 after Srixon changed the ball.

The only correct answer.

Gonna show my age here, but my golf ball progression over the years-

Tour Balata 90 (red number) ~~~>
Tour Prestige (high number)~~~~~>
Pro V1 (high number)

I occasionally play the AVX when I start fighting the moon ball (my life long nemesis), but 99.999% of the time I play Pro V1. Hell my 11yo daughter plays Pro V1 and has for the last 3 tournament seasons.

Consistency, ball flight, QC, confidence.........your ball matters

I had no idea how to play the right ball until my daughter got serious about golf.

Compression, club speed, desired ball flight, spin all factor in. She's moved to a Srixon ball that matches her well currently. Callaway Chrome Tour for me.

For what it is worth…my club's instructor staff has put on a series of classes open to our membership where each class focused on a topic of golf. It has been great. The most recent topic was spin around the green. A lot of the focus was how spin is created, how to use it, etc. Some takeaways 1. Spin is a great way to control the ball around the green. 2. Golf ball fitting should start and focus on and around the green and move back from there to the tee. 3. The variance in spin capability is quite dramatic from premium balls to two piece balls. For example, using Trackman, my exact same strike using various wedges produced about half as much spin using cheaper ball vs the Pro V1 and the Chrome Soft that I hit.

This.

Most players are worse with a Pro V1 or any other ball played by a PGA professional but they get them due to marketing and the number of pro players that use them. I did a ball fitting and it made a noticeable difference for me. My best balls are Bridgestone e6 and e12 depending on wind conditions.

I play with three old guys who won't even pick up a proV1 if they find it. They always just give it me as they think they can't hit them at all. Whereas I'll play with any ball I find!

Where did you do a ball fitting? All the online tools seem to be lacking. I'd love to get some input on what I should be hitting.

If you're near Houston/Cypress area, there's a guy that sells used balls he finds in the water. He dives at 27 courses and grades all his golf balls. Like 1000s.. He says he sells them back to courses and company's that re-package them for places like Academy, etc. I bought a variety from him, ProV1, TP5x, Vice Pro, Calloway Supersoft. I was liking the TP5x and Vice Pro. I would get a dozen grade A balls for $11, $18/dozen for ProV1.
