My wife wants to go over to PGA Frisco this weekend to watch the Women's PGA Championship. Having never gone to a golf tournament in person, any recommendations or tips would be appreciated. Also, if you've played the East course, where would be some good holes to watch?

Not relevant to Frisco, but we go annually to the Chevron Championship here in Houston. It's one of the other LPGA majors.

Its a lot more affordable, much more laid back atmosphere, and the players are a lot more approachable / engaging than PGAT events we've attended. Especially to kids.

If it's anything like other tournaments, finding spots to watch the action in the shade will be highly important if you aren't in a VIP / corporate pavilion.

Research and learn the prohibited items list. Compact chairs and umbrellas are generally allowed, just no covers on them for example here in Houston.

Let me know if you (or anyone) need some tickets. I've got 4 for each day, but we will probably only make it one day. Free.

I would also spring for a hospitality ticket, it's worth the extra 100 per ticket to be able to soak up some ac and sit comfortably for a but if you're gonna be there all day.

Lexi is amazing!
Funny story about her- Thursday at the Chevron this year she starts on 10. My daughter loves her so we are waiting on 10 for her to get there, suddenly a small army of middle aged Asian men surround the 10 tee. She's playing with Minjee Lee. Well as they wait and converse loudly in Chinese, Lexi strolls over to the cooler sitting on the tee, opens it and grabs a couple bananas. She tosses one to her caddie who puts it in her bag and she peels the other one and takes a bite. The men stop talking abruptly. Lexi turns to them and says playfully "get your minds out of the gutter boys!". She then pipes one 260-275 down the middle!

Just got back from LPGA in Frisco…amazing the smaller crowds for a major. It's hard if you don't follow ladies much because there's just very few big names. They can certainly hit the ball though….course is maturing nicely will be interesting to see how it accommodates men's PGA championship in 2027.

I think they could make it about as tough as any course on tour, especially if the wind is blowing.

Tips out longer than Torrey Pines and since everything is Bermuda they can pinch fairways as tight as they want. And Bermuda rough can be brutal.

I took my 6 year old daughter out there yesterday because she got a free ticket from school. It's cool seeing pros warm up and play somewhere I've played before. We followed Lexi Thompson and Charley Hull for awhile but unfortunately had to leave by the time Nelly teed off.

Lots of volunteers and the afternoon crowd seemed to be coming in as we left around 2pm.

I wish they had more seating areas like the Byron Nelson does, but really appreciated the free water at most holes and how nice everyone was. It'll be interesting to note the differences in how the tournament is run in 2027.

But most importantly, she had fun watching "the girls". She didn't watch much of the golf but loved the time out there and her snow cone. Said she wants to go back.

They said on broadcast that for the Men's tourny they will switch front and back nines.

For the women they have 9 playing as 18 and vice versa.

I think the real 18th is a MUCH better closing hole than 9. So if they do a total switch in 27 I hope they make sure the actual 18 is the 18 for the tournament.

Agree although I think the issue will be crowds…current 18 is tight and I don't know how you fit grandstands around it…also if you've been out there the bridge over panther creek will be a hugh issue on crowd control…be interesting to see.

We just got back from being out there all day. Really enjoyed it. Pretty hot and little cover, but the wind was blowing hard all day which kept it cool. Doubt the players appreciated it though. My wife and I started at the first tee and watch several folks tee off including Korda and Hull. Then we just walked the full circuit of the course, stopping occasionally. Course was pretty empty except for the bigger names like Hull, Korda and Thompson. Loved that they provided free water bottles all over the course.

We were hanging out on the par 3 4th green and saw Brianna Do get an Ace. Was really cool because there were only about 5 people there.

I see why they swapped the 9th/18th holes. There is hardly any space for them to set up hospitality/skyboxes on the normal 18th. And lord knows sponsors want their sky boxes.

Felt bad for them gals who aren't used to TX heat like we are. Several of them had rounds that were closing in on 6 hours.

I watched most of it on television today. Extremely windy.

Pretty sure that Lexi Thompson was in 3rd place to start the round.

On the first hole she hit a good drive on a par five. Then cold-topped her second shot. It was an awful shot.

Her next shot was a shank. Not kind of, it was a hosel rocket. It ended up in waist high gunch. Takes a drop.

After that she played pretty well. But she looked like a beginner on first hole.

The players have been exhausted mentally and physically.

And they are going to flip the nines completely for the men in 27 - will be better than the current situation but still not ideal. The ladies are mad that they are having to walk large gaps between the actual 8th/18th and 17th/9th holes. But Bagger is right - the par 5 actual 18th hole is a better finisher than the very tough par 4 actual 9th (playing as 18 for this event). The holes are flipped only to accommodate hospitality.

And this event should not happen in late June. Way too hot, especially with no shade.

Might get a big name winner tomorrow though, and with the scores, now everyone can see how tough the East really is!

I was out there yesterday; thankfully a client of KPMG so had access to their pavilion and spent 2-3 hours in there and 2-3 hours on the course. Great setup

The real 18 is a great hole and needs to be the finishing hole IMO. There is still quite a bit of room for grandstands albeit there is more room on 9; I'd like to see them get creative and just cram on what they can. That said, if they must flip, flipping 9s entirely is the way to go. Saw that walk firsthand and it was dumb.

Kind of hard to believe they built a major championship venue on a blank canvas but left themselves squeezed to where they aren't happy with how they could set up grandstands around 18. The terrain that makes it a great hole is part of it, but they probably also could have positioned 9 differently to leave more room for structure around 18.

And the course itself is great. A true strategic and execution test tee to green. The ribbon tees also give them tremendous flexibility on how they can set up each hole

I remember wondering how they would have enough space for the crowds around 18 in 2027, so I'm not surprised that they are flipping it.

Hearing the ladies complain about the course and set up was pretty annoying over the weekend. Stacy Lewis' quotes were pretty egregious I thought:

"The issue of this all too is, make us look good," she continued. "We're trying to get more people to watch women's golf, and to watch us play golf, and setups like this, they don't help us. And this is when we have our biggest stages, network TV and all of that, and we're making very good players look silly."

As if its the responsibility of the set up to play into their hands.

I see both sides of it. This is a major and designed to be tough. At the same time, these women, who are the best in the world, looked very mediocre most of the time. I watched them hit many very poor shots because the distances and landing angles were nearly impossible for them to be successful.

That doesn't help the women's game. And it shows how much different it is from men's golf. But I don't feel sorry for them either.

This is also coming after there were several complaints about the Women's US Open at Erin Hills making them all look really mediocre as well. The course and conditions were definitely set up to be very difficult, but they are also the best players in the world.

There were some complaints about the course being boring. I don't understand that at all.

With the ribbon tee boxes, the PGA could definitely have changed up tee box locations more to vary the yardages and strategies, but the East course is anything but boring. It makes you think with every single shot and there are a variety of ways to play just about every hole.
EliteElectric
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's one or the other, if you want more eye balls on the LPGA you need a following that is growing. The women's majors shouldn't be as difficult as the men's, that's why they have shorter tees. By that logic (shorter courses) the setups shouldn't be as tough.

Now if the ratings and attendance were = or greater than the men's by all means toughen things up a little but until then let's not. Unless the players want it

Well no amount of course setup change is going to result in the women's game being as popular as the men's.

Really? WNBA is doing pretty well at the moment.

And just wait until she wins a few, if she wins a few, could potentially be a Kaitlyn Clark type scenario

Not so fast my friend with the words in my mouth lol

I didn't say or mean that but what I did mean is the WNBA is experiencing a massive growth in eyes and dollars, mostly dues to KC's arrival. Same thing happened to the NBA when Magic and Bird got there, before that the NBA finals were shown on tape delay!

Most of them have great bods, they are young and walk 6-8 miles a day on hilly terrain, and then swing 250-1500 times a day.
