Satisfied With a Round?

Without regard to your score, are there other metrics by which you measure your game? Lately for me it's been a hyper-focus on trying to play a full round without a double bogey, or worse. I just can't close the deal. I wouldn't even care if I finished +18 with all bogeys, I'd be happy.

For me, no more than 1 3-putt and two double bogeys. No triples. That is an outstanding round for me.

For me its about ball striking. Am I hitting the ball the way I want to? No 3 putts would be in the mix, too, mainly because I've been struggling lately with the flat stick.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

Finish the round with the same two golf balls in my pocket I started with and no three putts.

Oh man...you're right in line with me too. Just once...no topping, blading, chili dipping or shanking. I've come close, but can't get through a round without 1 or 2 in those categories.

It's definitely ball striking. If I go a whole round hitting good balls off the tee, but some are push/pulls that don't end up with great results, that's fine. Then, if I'm hitting irons well, but some bounce through the green, or come up just short, that's fine. If I'm chipping and putting, and don't necessarily get up and down, but come close every time, that's good.

All the above makes me feel like I'm just a good bounce or two away from a great result.

Yup, the double bogey thing is my nemesis.I just can't keep them away,

I had 3 double bogeys last weekend and still shot 80, so there's some other good stuff happening. But I sure would like to have a card clean of double bogeys.

Ball striking and balls lost are big for me. I want rounds where I have multiple holes that I par or birdie. What frustrates me is constantly hitting behind balls or topping balls. But I feel good about a round where I have some really good shots. I really don't mind flying over the green if I flush a ball but I get frustrated constantly mi****ting balls.

Oh yes. I would take a bogey on a ball that flies properly and dribbles off the back, over a par that gets topped and rolls 100 yds up to the pin.

Penalties and > double.

Been having better results lately. Last round 8 non triple+ holes, a triple, the 7 hole run before quad/tripling 17/18 for a 98.

Good ball-striking. Hitting putts on the line/speeds I want - I'm ok with misreads or **** luck with the green, but am pissed if I'm not rolling the rock on the line I picked. Solid chipping

No lost balls and birdies >= doubles.

Not me. I'll take a lucky par over a mi**** bogey every time, thanks. Handicap isn't based on style.

Another vote for ball striking.

If I am playing well the ball is a little bullet draw, any other unintentional shot shape is a mistake and usually means I've jumped on the struggle bus.

All things equal ball striking equals success for me.

If I'm driving it well, I score well. From the white tees I overpower most local tracks and I can hit greens with gap wedges in. These courses I can shoot 75-80 if driving it well.

If I go to a real course that's target golf, I'm happy to shoot 79-85.

Driver is the key for me.

I usually track fairways hit and GIR. More than 50% on both and I'm ecstatic.

Also, no penalty strokes. I play gallery drop, 'cause it's silly to hit a ball just off the fairway and then totally lose the damn thing. But I have to stay dry and no OB.

Tracking total number of putts is kinda useless. Its all relative to how many greens you hit and how close you were chipping/pitching.

Greens in regulation is a good indicator if you dont keep it so strict. Like having a ball be on the fringe or even 3 yards short of the green but its an up hill shot. Those are often better than a 40 foot down hill putt on back side of green.

Fairways hit may be good to track if you lose a lot of balls out of bounds but ive never had a strong correlation in fairways hit and having lower scores.

If I hit the green or miss it in the right place I give myself a (+)

If i hit my drive in the fairway or a good strike that was missed in an acceptable place i give myself a (+)

I grade my rounds on making good decisions and if I struck it well and missed in correct spots

Last round I hit 6 greens. skulled one from 140 out that avoids green side bunker. settles on the top side of a tiny two tiered green where the flag is-15'er. Was also my only birdie of the day.

Last week i played twice

27 putts and shot 73
29 putts shot 84

Means nothing until you add that I hit 13 greens when I shot 73 and 9 when I shot 84

Yesterday evening I played 9 holes with my son, who is starting and watching his face as he hit par on a very short par 3 was amazing. I played like crap, mainly because I was rushing my shots to keep him going and offer advice and pointers but watching him start to figure some things out and beeming with happiness when he'd hit a straight shot or a good chip made it a very very enjoyable day.

Personally if I can shoot under 100 I'm happy with my day when I with my buddies.

1 birdie
6+ pars
0 three putts

If I can do two of those three, I am "satisfied"

After playing for the first time in months on Friday.

Ball striking
Chipping
Distance control

Would be the three things that indicate how the round went for me.

Amazingly enough only lost 1 ball, but did have A LOT of WTF was that chips and approach shots.

Putter was actually pretty acceptable considering I've never seen the greens that slow on that course

Shot a course record for me 43 on the front yesterday. All Bogey's then Pars on the 3's.

Really didn't miss hit much and got out of the minor jams I got into pretty cleanly.
