Looking for ideas for a couples trip within a modest drive of Houston. Quality golf obviously very important but also looking for a location that the WAGS would enjoy/entertain themselves.

I've seen Omni, La Cantera, Horseshoe Bay, etc. Any recommendations?

My wife loved the spa at La Cantera. And we both really liked the nice restauraunt they have down the hill a little bit (Signature maybe?). They also have an adults only pool. Fun golf course.

We did Lakeway once, which was okay and the course near it is private (part of Invited), so I drove out and played Falcon Head which was a cool one.

Theres Hyatt Lost Pines in Bastrop, but I didnt love that course for the price.

The Horseshoe Bay courses are fun and there are several (Ive done Summit and Ram Rock), but Ive only ever stayed at a friends house, so cant vouch for the resort options. Imagine Escondido has good options.

My knowledge of golf outside of DFW isn't deep, but I really enjoyed Tapatio Springs when we went. The women hired a driver to take them to wineries while we played golf. Evening scene onsite was nice and if you wanted to go to Boerne there's some good stuff there and not a far drive.

Happy to help out at Horseshoe Bay Resort. Send me an email for the dates you're looking at.

If flexible, we have our Beer by the Bay Music Festival coming up August 8-9.
Would be a great weekend to stay and play. Golf/Spa/Lake by day and Music/food/drink at night.

Fri - Kody West, Jason Boland, Tracy Byrd
Sat - Bart Crow, Aaron Tippin, Randy Rogers

I cant discount the festival cost, but I can help on the room side and maybe throw in an upgrade.

We do aerification starting in September so we'll have one course down at a time for a few weeks.

Let me know if I can help.

"Cal (9-3) vs. Texas A&M (9-3). On the list of rare sights in Southern California, a team running the option -- as the Aggies like to do with QB Stephen McGee -- ranks right up there with real breasts and 12 inches of snow." Stewart Mandel CNNSI

Take putu up on his offer. I love Horseshoe. The courses are great. Ram, Slick, and Apple Rock all offer great golf. They're beautiful even in the heat of the summer. Last time I was out there, I played solo until a retired local drove up and joined me. We picked up two of his old timer buddies at the turn and had a great time. They pointed out all of the homes owned by rich guys and old Ags on the course and bought me beers.

Agree on Lost Pines. It's not worth the price. The resort is nice but I only enjoy like 2/3rds of the course.

Barton Creek has the convenience of being a short drive from the Domain and downtown Austin for the WAGS.

Haven't played La Contera but my friends who have say its really nice.

Omni Barton Creek sounds like it would meet your needs. Good golf and spa.

Horseshoe Bay, TPC San Antone and Wolfdancer have all been enjoyed by the wife, while we played golf. I would recommend all 3

I second Omni Barton Creek if it's a couples thing. My wife raves about the spa and the adults only pool is fun.

Holy crap, Aaron Tippin is still a thing! Dude had the oddest shoulder to head size ratio. Good luck with the festival.

Was at Lost Pines a couple years ago, was pretty unimpressed with the entire place, especially for what they charge to stay there.

Not necessarily a resort but PGA Frisco could also meet your needs if you aren't looking to get out of the city scene. Spa, golf, evening events, the putting greens. Would be a nice weekend get away but you are in suburbia, not as picturesque as Barton Creek.

I get to play Fields Ranch a good bit through work. Nice course, but not remotely worth the cost (~$300) per round if it's coming out of your pocket. It's in good shape, but the scenery is insanely meh. I do really enjoy the 10 hole par 3 course though. Actually played it this past Saturday night.

I was at Tapatio last month for a wedding and was very disappointed in the golf course. I hadn't been there in 20+ years, but was looking forward to playing, because it's a fun layout. They charged us $92, and I must say, the place was trash. Tee boxes barely had grass on them, fairways were spotty, and the greens were so bad it was laughable. At least the wedding was fun.

Not really a resort but Lake Charles is great for a quick weekend getaway.

Get a room at the Nugget and you can golf in the morning while the women sleep in and go to the spa. Get another round in in the afternoon while the women lounge by the pool in a cabana or join them and skip the afternoon round.

Then have a nice dinner at the steakhouse and hit the tables all night and come home Sunday.

This breaks my heart! When George Strait was one of the owners, they put in a bunch of money into the course (this is like 15 years ago) and it was one of the most improved courses in America according to Golf Magazine or Golf Digest. I did a stay and play there about 4 years ago and loved it. Sad to hear it's fallen behind other places. I think Trevor Knight might be a member there. He's always posting videos from Tapatio on IG.

They wasted all their money on the proshop/bar building

Multi-million dollar front door that leads to a course that is constantly patchy and in tough shape.

Tapatio is not an option if the wives are coming along to do Boerne. The rooms are dated and not in good shape. We went last summer. The course was in good shape, the dining on site was good, but the rooms were brutal.

Outside the box rec here. The Falls in new ulm. Course is in great shape and all the rooms recently renovated. New pools with ZERO crowds anywhere. Round Top is nearby with plenty of shopping for the wives. Plenty of good restaurants in Round Top and the one at the falls is good as well. Wine/cigar bar there on site also.

Email the course

Interesting. So, Joy has decided to open it up to some outside cash flow. He wasn't much interested in that a couple of years ago.
