LIV and OWGR

Been reading some articles about the LIV tour re-applying for OWGR status. While most articles agree that there are players on LIV that are certainly of the caliber to be ranked highly, the sticking point for the OWGR is that basically, the fields never change and the relegation process also hinders inclusion.

I'll agree that the lack of change could be a sticking point, but I also think that the PGAT has seven or eight "Signature" events where basically the same 70 players are always in the field. Before anyone starts bashing me, I said basically, so where is the equity in that case? (other than 72 versus 54 holes played) I'll admit I'm not a big fan of the elevated events. It's a case of the rich getting richer. Why does a limited field elevated event winner receive 700 FedEx Cup points, and a regular tour stop with a full field only receive 500 points. I personally know a card carrying PGAT member, and that alone raises his blood pressure. Those players above the 70 threshold, basically don't care about the money (Let's be real, they all care about the money), but according to him those players want the points, and the ability to play for them.

I know there are posters on this board who are adamant in their belief, one way or another, about the LIV vs.the PGAT. Again, I have no dog in the fight, but I'll admit that I do enjoy watching LIV when it's on TV for the simple reason that it is golf, and the premise is to see who can get the ball in the hole in the fewest amount of strokes regardless of the tournament. Good golf is fun to watch.

This is one of the articles that I referenced. I like this writer, hope you do too.

Right or wrong, LIV's biggest problem from an OWGR standpoint is they set up a tour that meets virtually none of the OWGR's requirements for points. So, for them to get points, the OWGR has to effectively change its criteria. As a start-up seeking recognition, they put themselves behind the 8-ball by doing this.

Agree with that writer's statement that them withdrawing from consideration was a stupid move.

Interesting time in the world of golf and I think there's definitely more behind the timing of that article, along with Phil floating this tweet today...

Major negotiating behind the scenes has begun again. Hopefully this time the world of golf comes out better for it and it doesn't result in another stalemate. A big win for potential movement is Monahan leaving after next year.

Drop the team golf component, it has no following and complicates the golfer addition process.

Then, drop the lowest 5 performing guys mid-season and add the top 5 guys from Asian tour. You are adding players who qualify and dropping laggards. Seemingly, that gets them a seat at the table.

But, LIV's golden goose loves the team component because it gives him a couple of forced friends which he likely lacks outside of the format.
