Wood vs Hybrid, similar distance. Which do you bag?

I have a 5 wood and a 3 hybrid that produce similar distances. Off a good fairway lie, the 5 wood might go 5 yards further on a really great shot. Out of the rough, they're within a couple of yards of each other. (I tend to use the 3 hybrid instead of the 5 wood for the worst rough.) If the distances are basically the same for both clubs, what would you consider to decide which one to bag?

Which one produces more consistent results? That is your answer.

Hybrid. More versatile.

I checked my last 6 rounds, and it's almost dead even between these clubs. But using Mark Broadie's definition of "awful" shots, I've hit 3 awful shots out of 44 with the 5 wood and 1 out of 13 with the 3 hybrid. Small sample size.

That's my thinking, too, although I've been using the 5 wood more than twice as often.

With a hybrid, there's always a chance of a snap hook lurking in there somewhere. 5w has been much more consistent for me. I haven't even thought about grabbing the hybrid since i put the 5w in the bag.

I'm able to hit far more shots out of far more lye conditions with far more accuracy and consistency that it isn't even a thought which club to use. Especially if it's nasty. To each their own. You get to decide for yourself.

I hit my 3 and 4 hybrids much more consistently than I hit the same lofted woods. Who knows why, but I gave up on 5 and 7 woods a long time ago.

Aren't woods supposed to hold the green a little better than the hybrids?

I switched from a 3H to 5W. Don't plan on ever looking back.

Yes since fairway woods produce a higher ball flight than hybrids.

If they play to similar distances, and you've hit one 44 times and the other 13, it seems like you are more confident with the 5w. Heck, you might just like the look of it better behind the ball. Either way, I think you already have the answer.

100% this. My 5w goes straighter and higher and carries the same #. No brainer in my book.

Just gotta figure out what to do with my 4 hybrid. Switch it for a 4 iron or 7 wood? I just got fitted with new clubs and they are sweet! My 5 iron right now goes only about 5 yards less.

Mis-hits on my hybrids would be a low banana slice but on the new 5 wood and new 5 iron its a high fade.
