I'm kicking around the idea of taking golf more seriously for a bit to see how much I enjoy it. I'm talking a round and a range session or two every week for 6 months. I'm in college station. Would the campus course be a good course to learn to play on and then join a country club if I really get into it?

I haven't golfed in college station in a few years so my info may be dated, but for just learning the game, I think you're fine at either Briarcrest or the campus course. Campus course will have better practice facilities, but Briarcrest is probably quite a bit cheaper. Just go with whatever is more available or convenient to you at the time.
Check golf now for discounted tee times at all of the courses in the area and just have fun with it! Don't be afraid of the smaller ones either- Pecan Lakes over in Navasota, Hearne, and Madisonville off the top of my head all have courses to play as well. You'll eventually find which one you prefer to play for whatever reason (course difficulty, amenities, cheaper beer, ect) and stick to it on your own.

If you're learning, then just go with whatever the cheapest tee times you can find are. If the conditions are bad, just move your ball on a better lie (any grass you can find) to play off of. Starting off its just about putting in time on a course and building some muscle memory. Practice at the range and then try and translate it to the course when you have to do it in one swing.

Thank you. I can get all you can play/driving range for $350/month at A&M so I'm thinking of doing that. Best wanted to make sure it wasn't a situation like traditions where it's a super hard course which would make learning to play that much more challenging.
