Kapalua Plantation Course in trouble?

Neighbor were on the island about a month ago. He didn't play Kapalua, but he did say the island looked 'crispy' and courses were clearly not as green as he's seen them in the past. I'm sure the climate folks are all wringing their hands, but it's just dry at the moment.
Hawaii has been the kick-start to the PGA Tour for years, but I don't see how they play in those conditions.
There is a dispute between the water supply system and the owner of the course. They have shut the course down (for 2 months, allegedly) for now. Sentrey TOC going to need a new home ASAP. Australia would be cool for a try out.

Played it in 2022 and it was phenomenal. There is no drought there.. just terrible liberal/state policies and people wanting a handout/kickbacks to fix the issues. Yes areas of the island get less rain, but there are also areas that receive unbelievable rainfall year round. It's not a rain problem...

I was at the Sentry in 2024 (Friday round as I recall). This was 5 months post fire. The course was absolutely incredible. Very few patrons and the best golfers in the game (minus Rory) were all there.

It isn't difficult, but it is expensive. They did a small scale one and Oahu is getting a large one within a year or two.
I stayed at Kapalua back in June and Bay course was crispy. Not just the course but everywhere on west Maui. It sounds like the land owners further up the mountain have not maintained the watershed and ditch system properly which is what the current lawsuit is alleging. Couple that with their Severe Drought on West Maui this year.
I'd also add that Hawaii is among the worst-run states in our republic. Oodles of incompetence.

Yea there is very much and likely always will be a unique power struggle there in ways of the past vs the present. They thrive off tourism, but also inherently block and fight it at the same time to their own detriment. I get there has to be a balance, but it's unique nonetheless
And it's only gotten worse since the fires in '23.
well there's a chance that storm in the Pacific heads their way, so all is not lost yet.

Such an incredibly fun course to play and see on TV every January.
I'm certain they won't do it, but in terms of moving it they should be headed to Australia. I'm sure they'll end up somewhere in California

That sucks, but not surprising seeing the pics and video. Always enjoyed the evening golf from Maui to start the year.

we have fractional ownership in Maui....property taxes for us are 20X higher than locals pay
