Getting back into practice post surgery. What do I need to work on? Have been swinging more upright in backswing and not as flat… trying to roughly emulate linn grant.

Last couple times I've played my miss has been left with a little cut. 7-9 iron have been missing green 20+ yds left. Seems like I'm way from inside with face marginally open to path.

Past couple days I've been working on shifting path more to right. It's hard for me to do without ripping my shoulders open and getting hands stuck behind

Swing faster. It looks like you're in slow motion.

My two cents, but it looks to me like you could get a lot more hip turn in your backswing. I tend to swing over the top, so I focus on turning my hips as much as possible with my right elbow (I'm right handed) as close to my rib cage as possible. This avoids the "chicken wing" with my right elbow and forces me to use more of my hips and legs in my swing. If you do this, your club will be far more shallow than it is right now, although you are doing a good job of shallowing out your swing on the way down.

One observation that might be relevant to the miss left.

Face appears to be pretty shut at the top. I would think you have to hang on through impact rather than release to avoid smother-hooking it. Might be why you are seeing a miss left if you are hanging on and keeping the club from closing.

Is that because of a really strong grip that I can't see from down the line or another reason? I can't tell. Just something to consider.

Still..nice looking swing and you are just fine tuning things. Hit em straight.

I mean issue number 1 is swinging from the wrong side, makes everything backwards

It may be the over the top movement but it looks like you are fighting the club to avoid your miss left, thus causing the miss left. As a slicer of the ball for many years who then developed a banana hook, learning to feel like I'm "hitting behind the runner" to use a baseball reference helped me stay square through the ball.

Maybe a little weight shift toward the target prior to downswing? Ideally you should shift toward target just prior to finishing backswing. Hard to tell without face on view.

The swing is a little steep, so perhaps you need to let you your rear hip move back, up and toward the target more and feel the weight in rear heel. This will help you get a little deeper in backswing and less steep (Think of lead arm more at rear bicep vs rear shoulder). Just prior to finishing backswing, feel a shift into the front side but try to separate your bottom half from the top half so that that your top half hangs back (think of Dak Prescott warmup drills). Also look up Justin Rose pre shot routine where he lets his arms drop to the ground before swinging.

It looks like your rear knee moves toward the ball initially, causing you to stand up a bit to make contact. The back knee should move toward your front knee initially. If you get a slight shift toward the target, this may take care of itself. Practice your swing with your knees against the couch cushions and don't let your back knee touch the cushions (Look up Nick Faldo drill).

Good luck in your journey.

You're a brave man asking for swing advice from randos on a message board.

Hope you don't mess up your swing any worse.
