All these "signature" events on PGA Tour

I don't like it. I don't like these no-cut tournaments with small fields. It creates this environment where you have to have FedEx points to keep your card, but the tournaments that give the most points are the signature events, which limit the fields and don't have a cut, and so if you're in them, you get the benefit, and if you're not in them, you need to be in them, but you can't hardly get in them because the field is small. I get it, win and get high finishes in the other events, but it just seems silly to me to create this environment where the only way to get FedEx and OWGR points is to play in these small field, no cut tournaments, but the only way to get into them is to have the points and status that they give, and they only give them to the guys that are already in them, but the only way to get in them is to already be in them and on and on and on

agreed. I was with a bunch of guys this weekend who are members of Colonial. They are not a signature event right now and to a man they all want the tournament to end because they will get a crappy field, and it limits their play and damages their course. Plus, they can't even use their clubhouse during the tournament without a ticket - that's just crazy to me.

I hate them as well. Why not have signature events but with full fields? The top players would still be making tons of money but others would have a legit chance as well.

I think that may be on the table with the re-org.

If it was me, I've have fields of around 100 (120 is tough if you have any weather issues at all) with approximately 60 making the cut.

I wouldn't mind it if there were only 3-4 signature events, similar to how the WGC events were, but we are in a period of the schedule where 3 of the 4 weeks are signature events twice within a short period of time.

You had:

Pebble Beach (Signature)
Genesis (Signature)
Cognizant Classic
Arnold Palmer (Signature)

then after the Masters:

RBC (Signature)
Zurich Classic
Cadillac Championship (Signature)
Truist Championship (Signature)

There isn't much prestige when almost every week is a "special event".

Not that anyone really sees these events as particularly meaningful from a career resume standpoint either way, and was probably just more about getting guaranteed money with bigger payouts to keep the top players happy.

Yeah, not a fan either. IMO it has only resulted in more weeks with a spare field. B team week.

It was entirely constructed as a way to keep a couple dozen stars from bolting for LIV....and with exception of Rahm, it worked.

Looking forward to what they are going to roll out for 2028 and beyond and hope that it's better.

I'm not a fan of these signature events. I believe it damages the events, which are not designated as such.

Yeah I think the no cut aspect is terrible and hoping once LIV is done that may revert. Also as pointed out they are too bunched.

When they restructure the schedule I think that may solve the issue a bit. The goal was to get top players all playing together at these, but they still skip them if it doesn't fit their schedule. Money isn't a motivator for players that matter.

If they can just chop the bottom tier events and make a tighter, more scare schedule it'll be beneficial.

How about a Monday qualifier for these signature events?
100 guys playing for 20 spots. $5,000 entry fee and anyone in the top 300 OWGR can sign up.

So the signature field would be top60 OWGR and then 20 from the MQ. No cut but only the top25 after 4 rounds get paid. Give $25,000 to the low round of the day for each round.

The no-cut aspect of LIV has been ridiculed from its inception, yet the PGA Tour decided it was important to do the same to protect its best players. Professional golf tournaments are supposed to have cuts, its sink or swim; that pressure of trying to make it to the weekend is part of what makes it compelling in the first place.

Get rid of no cut but give a small stipend for qualifiers in these signature events, no stipend for sponsor exemptions.
