WACO -- The No. 1 seed Texas A&M women's golf team looks to make its return to the NCAA Championship through the 2026 Waco Regional May 11-13 at the Ridgewood Country Club.

The Aggies have won a program-record tying five tournaments this season and have the No. 4 ranking in the country, which garnered them the second No. 1 seed of the Gerrod Chadwell era.

The Maroon & White are led by Vanessa Borovilos who was recently named to the WGCA Player of the Year and ANNIKA Award Watch lists. The sophomore is ranked No. 11 on the scoreboard rankings and No. 21 on the World Amateur Ranking. The Canadian has finished runner-up three times this year, including the last two outings at the SEC Championship and "Mo" Morial Invitational, and one victory at the Moon Golf Invitational.

Joining Borovilos are Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio, Sky Sudberry, Brynn Kort and Natalie Yen. Louise Reau will serve as the team alternate. Fernandez Garcia-Poggio was an All-SEC First Team selection this season and is ranked No. 21 on the scoreboard ranking. Kort earned an SEC All-Freshman Team nod after posting four top-10 finishes this year.

The Aggies will be making their 33rd appearance in the NCAA postseason and fifth under the direction of Chadwell. The Waco regional is comprised of 12 teams, and the Maroon & White will need to finish within the top five of the field after 54 holes of stroke play in order to advance to the NCAA Championships in Carlsbad, California, April 22-27.

Most of the course drains well. Some areas, mostly on back 9, can stay a bit boggy but they ought to be fine by late morning. Teams going off the front like the Ags are have a slight advantage today. I'll be out there some. Looking forward to it.

Solid start. T2 and 7 shots clear of dreaded 6th place. SMU had a strong start to lead, but other than that, we essentially finished according to the chalk. Right where we need to be.

Borovilos Leads Aggies into Tie for Second After One Round of Waco Regional

WACO -- The No. 4 Texas A&M Women's golf team was led by Vanessa Borovilos who shot a 4-under 66 to lead the Aggies into a share of second at even-par, while she held onto a piece of first after the opening round of the Waco Regional Monday at Ridgewood Country Club.

"It is nice to get off to a good start," Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "You will see that this golf course is probably going to win at the end of the week. We made great adjustments today to shoot even par with the wind the way that it was. The wind will switch around to the south tomorrow, so I am excited to see how we handle that."

Texas A&M was three shots back of No. 21 SMU (-3) and tied with No. 8 Oregon in second. The Aggies are competing to land inside the top five after 54 holes of golf and currently sit seven shots good of the cut, with No. 36 LSU holding onto sixth place at 7-over 217.

Borovilos stood toe-to-toe with the No. 1 ranked amateur in the world, Oregon's Kiara Romero. Both golfers shot 4-under 66, along with Tennessee's Kyra Van Kan. The Canadian birdied the first two holes of the day and added birds on Nos. 4 and 6 to jump out to 4-under quickly. The sophomore battled the rest of the round but logged two more birdies on 13 and 14 to secure a share of the lead heading into round two.

Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio had the inverse start to Borovilos, jumping out to 4-over at the turn. The junior All-SEC First Teamer turned her round around after dunking an eagle with a 58 degree from just over 74 yards out. Fernandez Garcia-Poggio added a birdie on 14 to bring her score down to 1-over 71 for the round and tied for 12th.

Brynn Kort also logged a 1-over 71 with a share of 12th. Kort carded a clean round with two bogeys and a birdie on 14. Natalie Yen was the final counting score for the Aggies at 2-over 72 and tied for 21st, while Sky Sudberry was 3-over 73 and tied for 29th.

The Aggies picked up six strokes from holes 11-15 with one eagle, five birdies and just one bogey. Three of Texas A&M's golfers holed birdies on No. 14.

The Maroon & White return in round two with an 8 a.m. tee time from No. 1 on Tuesday. The second round will be live streamed at babygrandegolf.com and live stats can be found at:

Aggies Create Separation at Waco Regional After Stellar Back Nine

WACO -- The No. 4 Texas A&M Women's golf team shot 6-under 204 in the second round to secure solo second after round two Tuesday at the Waco Regional behind freshman Natalie Yen's back nine where she buried birdies on four of her final six holes.

"It is good knowing that our team is playing well," Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "We got off to a slow start today but really got it going on the back nine. That was a huge round from Natalie, a freshman, in this moment. Everyone is really playing well, which is what you need this time of year."

Texas A&M (-6) was eight shots back of No. 21 SMU (-14) for the top spot on the team leaderboard. However, the Aggies extended their cushion to 12 strokes over Tulsa and Baylor for the final spot going into Wednesday's final round. The Maroon & White will be seeking to stay within the top five after the last 18 holes in order to advance to the NCAA Championships in Carlsbad, California.

Vanessa Borovilos stayed atop the individual leaderboard tied for first place at 5-under 135 thru 36 holes. The sophomore was once again paired with No. 1 amateur in the world, Kiara Romero of Oregon, and outplayed her by one shot on the day. Borovilos was tied with LSU's Francesca Fiorellini and SMU's Kirra St. Laurent while Romero was one shot behind the leaders.

Yen started the day with two birdies to get her going. The West Linn, Oregon, native fell down to 1-over in the second round after No. 11 but then holed birdies on Nos. 13, 14, 16 and 17 to help get the Aggies more breathing room over the looming cut with a 3-under 67 scorecard. Yen's round was highlighted by a chip in on 14 from right off the green that trickled into the hole after a downhill run. The preseason freshman All-American stood tied for 11th heading into the final day.

Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio also turned in a 3-under 67, which gave her a share of sixth. Brynn Kort and Sky Sudberry rounded out the group tied for 26th and 31st, respectively.

Once again, the Aggies dominated the back nine, getting back six shots in round two compared to five strokes in round one. Northern Arizona dropped from the team standings due to only having three golfers available.

The Maroon & White return in round three with an 8 a.m. tee time from No. 1 on Wednesday. The third round will be live streamed at babygrandegolf.com and live stats can be found here:

Apparently they did.

Poor kids only had 4 players for the tournement (minimum required) and one girl hurt her back and had to withdraw. Which ultimately meant the team had to withdraw.

I feel bad for them. Even if they weren't going to move on.

Aggies advance.

Vanessa (SO) wins the tournament by 4 strokes.

As a team, Aggies finish in 2nd, 6 strokes behind SMU, who won with a -17 final score.

I will post the press release later.

crazy because up until just now everything looked to be pretty much chalk in all of the regionals...now all of a sudden you have

UCF #14 out
OU #23 out
UCLA #15 out
Miss St #17 out
Oregon #8 out

and Tennessee and Tulsa in a tie that has to be resolved to determine who advances and Tennessee is #16

Ah, you're right. For some reason I was thinking the tie was broken using the 5th players' scores.

But, I do think they do count all 5 players' scores in the playoff.

Borovilos Wins Waco Regional; Sends Aggies to Carlsbad

WACO -- The No. 4 Texas A&M Women's golf team advanced through the Waco Regional by coming in second as a squad behind a program record and individual championship from Vanessa Borovilos Wednesday at the Ridgewood Country Club.

Borovilos shot a 10-under 200 for the tournament and 5-under 65 in the final round, which set a new program record for a 54-hole score at a regional, besting Jennie Park's 8-under 208 in 2022. The sophomore won the title by four shots over TCU's Kirstin Angosta (-6), who was the lone individual on a non-advancing team to move onto NCAAs.

The Aggies shot 11-under 829 as a team, which was 18 shots clear of the cut. Texas A&M will be making its fourth appearance at NCAAs during the Gerrod Chadwell era. Each of the previous three trips resulted in match play berths, including two semifinal trips (2022, 2023). The Maroon & White will make its NCAA Championships run May 22-27 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. Joining the Aggies in Carlsbad are SMU, Baylor, LSU and Tennessee. The Lady Vols earned the final spot after winning a playoff against Tulsa.

Borovilos was even-par thru No. 6 and then drained four straight birdies from holes 7-10 to take a commanding lead over the field. The sophomore put an exclamation point on the round with birdies on 15 and 18.

Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio tied for 10th at 2-under 208 for the week. The junior shot even-par on the day with 16 pars. Sky Sudberry went 2-under 68 for the Aggies in the final round, securing a share of 20th with fellow teammate Natalie Yen. Brynn Kort rounded out the lineup with a piece of 31st.

Texas A&M Women's Golf Quotes

Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell on the team advancing ...

"This feels amazing. We had one of the low rounds of the day, but this is more about this team 365 days ago when we did not advance through Lubbock. Our hearts were broken. We had a lot of new faces on this team with golfers that had not been through a week like this. This team coming together the way it has is what makes this so special."

Chadwell on Vanessa Borovilos's performance ...

"She was starting to label herself as someone who couldn't close a tournament. The No. 1 golfer in the world was in the field and she went toe-to-toe with her for two days in the same pairing. Vanessa looked the part this week.

Borovilos on her play at the Waco Regional ...

"It has been tough the last couple of months because I feel like I have been right there every week. My mind has gotten in the way in the past. These last few holes, I just kept reminding myself that my family and my team are so much more important than winning. We tend to lose sight of that when we are in the moment.

I read the article on them.

Earlier in the season, they had an 8-player roster. They lost 3 of their players for various non-injury related reasons.

A 4th player accidentally scheduled her wedding the week of the regional tournament because her coach gave her the wrong dates.

So they were only able to travel with 4 players, meaning no subs and no attrition.
