Wow, I've not priced clubs in a long while.

Four years ago I bought my sone a new set of Irons for college graduation that were on sale. Titleist T300's that were on sale for $599.

Bought some Titleist AP2 Irons in 2016 and they've been good clubs. Had a fitting with a Titleist fitter with Dynamic Gold S300 Stiff shafts.

Swing speed has definitely dropped in 10-years and I decided to take advantage of a free fitting Titleist was offering at Scheels this week.

Fit me with a set of T250 with KBS Tour Light Regular Shaft clubs. Felt really good and the ball jumped off the face. Gained a little distance (160 vs 150), but overall numbers were similar to my old clubs but with better launch angle (22 vs 19 and better decent angle (50 vs 45). He also set them upright as I was hitting down on my old clubs and the T250's until he adjust them.

He said for $1,500, (5-GW) he suggested I stick with what I have. Maybe see if I can get my exiting clubs lie adjusted and new shafts and I'd be way ahead. Getting the lie adjust would help with the launch angle some.

He mentioned club prices have gone up thru the roof the last few years. New drivers now retail for $699.00!

TLDNR: $1,500 for new Irons, and Drivers are now $700!!!

It's crazy, but just wait until the end of the year or the start of the new year when last year's models all get discounted heavily. Last year's Cobra drivers are like 299.

Yep, last year model is the way to go and not any different in performance. It's all about getting fit with the right shaft.

I'm all I on older stuff. I got fit for a Calloway driver a while back and took the data and went to Calloway pre-owned an bought the last year model for $299 instead of $499.

The only issue with last year Irons are the shaft spec. and the 2-deg upright loft.

Yep that's what I did last season and got custom shaft, grip and cut down to my size for like 365 out the door. Seriously loving the cobra dark speed for what I paid. I updated after gaming a tsi3 for 6ish yrs

Also, keep an eye out on 2ndswing golf. You can search for used clubs and use the filter to show the sets that have the shaft you want. They can also bend them for you for $5/club and regrip if needed.

There are some quality DTC brands that are very reasonably priced. New Level, Sub 70, and Takomo are worth looking in to.

Keep an eye out on carls golf land. You get pretty good deals on clubs regularly. A $700 driver you mentioned was on there for $400/-. A prior generation fairway metal was $150/-

As long as you don't want the "latest" you will find good deals. Obviously you'll spend a bit more if you want to get the lie and loft adjusted

Yep, this is a good route if you know what shafts and loft/lie adjustments you need.

my kid liked the tour edge clubs at the pga store so I bought them direct, customized to his fitting.

C725's 5 to PW were about $695 allin after the first time purchase discount which I think was 15%.

not exactly a big name brand but they are certainly an upgrade over his old sticks.

As others have mentioned, keep an eye out on the used sites like callaway pre-owned, 2nd swing, and even ebay. OR buy last years models new. I did that recently with my driver. Got a brand new QI35 for around $325.

Just replaced my whole bag last month except for the putter. Titleist 620MB 5 thru PW, Vokey 50, 54 and 60 degree wedges and Taylormade Qi4D driver, 3, 5 and 7 woods. The cost was ridiculous!

I did the same thing due to my club speed going down as I age. Had a bag of Taylormade M3 irons/clus with stiff KBS shafts.

Bought Haywood iron and wedge heads, bought all composite regular flex shafts, and all other goodies. Had them built as single length irons and single length wedges. All good but the wedges. Pro had to butt cut the wedge shafts. That made them high flying, but lost distance.

Have since replaced the wedges with Edel wedges... custom built as single length wedges again.

All good now. It wasn't an inexpensive endeavor.

I really like the tour exotic wood and hybrid line from tour edge. I got 2 hybrids for basically the cost of 1 from the big brands

Local shop that's been in business for 30+ years re-shafted a driver for my son (he had my old regular flex TaylorMade RBZ and the hozel broke on it). Did it for very reasonable cost.

Called and I told him what the fitter told me. Numbers are not enough different to spend $1,500, lighter shaft will be easier to get off the ground and late in the round when you are tired easier to hit, etc. He said, "yup, if your swing speed is lower than 10-years ago these will be easier for you to make more consistent ball strikes". If I buy the shafts from them, install is free and will include a black golf pride grip. Online shafts are $45. He quoted me $45/club to re-shaft so basically install is free. $315 + Tax. If I hate the grips, I can always get new ones later.

Old shafts were 130g. New shafts are 95g. They really did feel easier to swing the T250 with those shafts than my existing clubs in the hitting bay.

I'm going to go that route so I went ahead and ordered thru them. Said the shaft will be here next week and give them a few days to install them. I'll ask them about bending them more upright when I go in next week.

It's $45 per club to buy the new shaft and to remove my old shafts and install the new ones.

I was doing a little google AI research and realized the place I'm using, Golf MD, which has a very good reputation in our area, offers a retro-shaft fitting service for $50.

I know their club fitting service is $100, but they will apply it to the price of new clubs if you buy through them.

I think I might call Tuesday when they open and talk to them about doing that before just going with the KBS Tour Lite shafts. Esp. if they apply the $50 to the new shaft installation.

Google AI seems to think the KBS Tour Lite would be a great switch for me based on my lower swing speed and the numbers from the T250 fitting. The T250 Lauch has a very similar swing weight and loft as my current AP2's.

I've been shopping eBay pretty hard. Snagged near-new Rors Protos and switched my existing graphite shafts into them for about $1500 total. Probably saved $1k+.

I have NL 902s. They're probably not game improvement enough for me but customized with a shaft of my choice and 2 degrees upright for under $500. And that was 3 years ago.

I'll never buy brand name again. Next set are probably Tokoma.

With those prices, I think I'll just hang on to my Callaway S2H2s
