Self installed a double oven gas range. Upper oven will not light unless we turn on the stove also. It's acting like th me gas won't flow unless the stove starts it. Any ideas what may be wrong?

To add to the scenario. I know the gas hose is undersized for the range. Trying to work around that.

So the supply hose is undersized for the range?

Sounds easy then, it isn't supplying the right amount of gas per the oven settings. The stove is pretty much gas gas gas pizo pizo pizo.

The oven stops filling with gas because it'll explode if it fills and then finally lights off.

The oven calls for a specific amount of flow for a set period of time and tries to light that off, when the stove is on its drawing as much gas as possible in so there isn't a shortage. I'd imagine if you turn on the lower over to broil, you'd be able to light the top oven as well.

That's exactly why I was thinking the problem is. I guess it's time to call in a plumber.

Had a similar situation where a plumber installed a 3/4" line for a Wolf 36"...because that is what he always installed for ranges (he had never heard of Wolf). Little did I know at the time that he never opened the installation instructions. It clearly called for a 1" line, which when you do the math is a bit shy of double the pipe's cross section area. When the oven was preheating, the burners barely lit until the preheating was done. Upgraded the line (different plumber) and worked correctly after that.

So, we bought a camper trailer, and the oven doesn't like to light unless you're also using the stove (which took me about 2 hours to figure out).

Once I did that, I can light the oven super quick. It's all about flow regulation and air mixture - plus safety devices that are now installed to protect dumb people (mostly).

I know the line is undersized because there is a consistent hum from turbulence when it's pulling high amounts of gas. I thought this was the problem to begin with but wanted to confirm with others.

Could the connection be loose or the hose have a hole in it?

Too much fresh air could also be a problem, the gas isn't rich enough.

Good thought but I have checked all connections from wall to hose. I'm fairly confident there isn't a hole.

Okay, upgraded the flex pipe coming into the unit. Still same issues though.

Slight hum.

Oven won't light or re-ignite unless the stove is on. It's feels like the oven won't release gas unless the stove is turned on.

This is a brand new unit and it has done this from the start. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that everything should be working as it should and I wasn't delivered a broken appliance.

Any ideas?

The unit is set up for NG and not propane or vice versa right?

We went through all necessary instructions to convert to propane.

We even backed up and ran through it again to make sure we did it correctly.

Still sounds like a gas flow issue.

I'd pay a plumber who specializes in gas $150 for an hour or two of his time.

Probably a ferring or something.
