I have a 1/2" OD 5/16" ID Pex hoses coming out of my wall. I mistakingly bought a shark bite fitting for 1/2" to 3/8" compression. I can't find a fitting so that I can put a quarter turn stop on this hose then run the link to the faucet connection.

See below picture if this is any help. I do not own any Pex tools, so if I have to go that route any guidance would be great there as well.

If I'm understanding right, you'll need something like this. Even though it's not in-wall, I would be leery of using a sharkbite.

There are many different type of crimp/ring connections for pex that will require a tool.

Where are you? I'd loan you my comp tool

I bought a PEX crimp tool a couple weeks ago. They're not cheap, but well worth the peace of mind, in my opinion, over a push on fitting.

These will secure the valve that txag2008 posted above.

Home Depot rents the crimp tool, I believe.

Personally, I would go with copper crimp rings instead of the stainless steel cinch rings if you ever anticipate having to remove them for maintenance or repairs down the line. The stainless cinch rings are a PITA to remove.

If the OP is in/near Houston, I have all the PEX tools for the job, regardless of which rings get used.

All thank you so much for the feedback. Appears everyone is recommending a crimp style here. I'm going to take the shower wall down here soon and I'll see if that is copper or Pex. If that is Pex, I'll likely go buy the tools for that scope.

Truly thank y'all for your help so far here!

So went to Home Depot and thought the OD of the Pex tubing is 1/2" I have a 3/8" PEX. The fitting above won't work now so I have to go back to the drawing board here.

They make 3/8" pex fittings too.

This is the pex that is stubbed out under the sink? Seems odd that it'd be 3/8"

That's correct. It comes off of a manifold so I was told this is very common. Home Depot did not carry a 3/8" angle quarter turn with a 3/8" compression fitting so it appears I'll need to convert over. They have brass shark bite fittings to go from 3/8" to 1/2" MIP thread from there I could add a quarter turn and then a 3/8" compression however that would be a brass to stainless connection which I don't think I want long term.

In that situation you should be more concerned about the sharkbite fitting and not the brass/stainless connection.

The shark bite is the brass fitting and the quarter turn would be a stainless. So I should be double worried about that shark bite fitting now huh haha??

Appears this right here will do the trick?

I think you're missing the point. The reason everyone was suggesting to use the pex fittings over the sharkbite was because of the questionable reliability/longevity of sharkbite fittings.

At least it's not an in-wall connection, but I wouldn't use sharkbite fittings for more than an emergency or temporary fix.

BTW... Sharkbite, as a brand, makes a full line of PEX fittings beyond the push on stuff they're known for.

I will not use the push on stuff... personal preference... but their other stuff is very good.

Yeah, when it comes to Sharkbite fittings, I know of several situations where they have failed in a short term period. In one case, my friends house was flooded before they arrived home. It was a cap that was installed on the supply lines for a tub faucet as they were waiting on receipt of the faucet.

I only use them for short term fixes if ever. I had one fail on me in a short term fix but I was lucky as I was nearby when it failed. And it was installed correctly!
