New covered back porch being framed up now and can't decide how many fans to put back there. Wife already ordered three 52" fans on Black Friday just in case but I can't decide if we should go with two or three.

Porch is 24' long and we plan on also having recessed cans in addition to the fans but don't want the cans close enough to the fans to create a strobe effect.

Our back porch is 25' and we have two fans with can lights in between. Two is plenty. If we put 3 in there it would be tight and you don't need one unless it's near/over a seating area. 2021 new build fwiw.

2 should be plenty.

24' porch
4.3' fan

end of porch - 5.1 ft gap - 4.3' fan - 5.1' gap - 4.3' fan 5.1' gap - end of porch

vs.

end of porch - 3.2' gap - 4.3' fan - 3.2' gap - 4.3' fan - 3.2' gap - 4.3' fan - 3.2' gap - end of porch

Too many and too close imho. or go to smaller fans.

I recently had a 25' x 10' gabled patio cover built. I have 2 60" fans and it's plenty of air movement.

Your designer/architect should know for sure with Plan + siting data at hand but usually ... I agree with those saying 2 from their experiences.

When we put 3 fans up in such tight quarters designs, it's b/c the poor orientation & wind direction doesn't wash the space of heat/humidity and thus we
omit downlights & strobe-effects potential
by mounting wall coach lights ... we think a better lighting anyway for such a space.

Visiting a Disney park is a great education in how to properly light outdoor areas. We lesser experienced tend to OVER light them. Any pilot friend of yours might weigh in on this as well, as they use not headlights 90% of the time when flying.

we have roughly a 35' x14' porch and only have two fans. To be fair the middle part of the covered porch is not a sitting area, it is where the stairs leaves the deck, so the two are centered over the main sitting areas. Also don't want one in the middle as that is where the TV is hanging from the ceiling on a swivel (close the the house, not in the middle of the deck)

Thanks all. I think we'll go with 2 fans. I'm getting excited. They finished framing and most of Hardi yesterday and the pool should plaster and fill next week.

Not to butt in, but you might want gutters on the porch as well, drip edge all the way around and ICE AND WATER MEMBRANE that entire porch.

EDIT: Didn't see the upper gutters on my phone. Scratch that. But do make sure those upper gutters don't dump out onto your porch roof if you can help it.

Thank you. Yes we definitely need to do some gutter work and due to the low pitch of the porch roof I think ice and water shield is a good idea.
