Anyone have experience with an purifier that actually removes odors? Info online seems to be mixed. Based on the below threads, it seems like the Winix 5500 and Blueair large room and small room units might actually work with odor control. We will look into long-term solutions with our HVAC later but are looking for a quick solution to deal with lingering cooking smells in the kitchen and with cat litter boxes in a spare room.

Does your kitchen have a vent hood that vents to the exterior of the house?

I'm adamant about having ours on anytime someone cooks. My wife often forgets to turn it on. I find that having it on avoids creating any lingering food smells in the house. Heck, if I have it on at 50%, I can't smell the bacon cooking when I'm standing right in front of the stove. Kind of sad, actually.

When you look at Ling term solutions, check out air exchangers. I've been wanting to do this at my house.

just get an air purifier. A medium size one will clear a room of particles and smell.

If you can vacate your house for a couple of hours, use an ozone generator. It neutralizes the organic stuff that creates a lot of the odors in houses. Every so often we take the dogs to the park for a couple of hours and blast the house with ozone. It works wonders.

My wife did a lot of research a few months back and got a couple Air Doctors for our home.

Do you rent the machine or just purchase and use it sporadically?

Damn okay . I just glanced at Home Depot and saw $350 and just knew I didn't need something else sitting in my garage for months on end, but that's easy enough.
