I bought a house back in June and am still "learning" it. I just noticed a gizmo in one of the master closets, right above the closet door. I have no idea and would appreciate any and all help. Photos are below.

Maybe a weird doorbell?
I was wondering if it might be a step-down transformer for the doorbell. But that makes little sense.Lake08 said:

It appears to be a transformer on top of a light socket, with a fuse screwed into the light socket.
Apparently it's how some electricians add a fuse to protect the doorbell transformer.

Thanks. That must be it. That thread was interesting. Like the inspector who raised the question in the first place on that thread, my house is also in Arkansas. As they concluded, it must be a local way of doing things. Bottom line it seems weird, but apparently does no harm.

That. Tell everyone it's a keyless on a pancake box with a screw in for the doorbell.
