We want to build a patio cover coming off the side of our garage. Foundation with posts, similar to the picture. I am wondering if it will be a problem that the swimming pool plumbing probably runs underneath where part of the foundation needs to be?

I guess the first part is to be careful while digging for the posts. But other than a line breaking underneath and needing repair is there any other reason the foundation can't cover the plumbing?

I would try and relocate the plumbing, especially if you don't already have the slab.

I had a patio built and instead of rerouting the sprinkler lines like they were supposed to, just moved a couple of head for the zone that the sprinkler was built in and left the pipe running to to more zones under the patio. I didn't catch it until they were done, so I decided to let it slide instead of deal with the headache of them fixing their oversight and I figured I could handle rerouting the pipe if it ever came to it. It took 3 weeks after the patio was completed for one of the lines to bust.

I would move that plumbing because even if it doesn't need repair for the next 10 years, it will be cheaper to do it now and you'll only have to dig up your yard once.

I guess I need to have someone come dig around a little to see what route the pipes even go.

1. your pool company super for your job should be present when post holes are being a) scouted for pipes, b) fully dug
2. photo suggests only two large holes need be dug to support 2-columns
3. it might cost more but more prudent to consider a deck, whose planks could be removed in case of a plumbing problem below

I would prefer a 4+ post self-standing pergola, so you must have a clear picture on how those beams are going to tie into house framing and if there's enough house studs to carry beam-end weight? Then weatherproofing the house exterior "wrap" opening created by new framing install?

Alternate option you may not find as impressive = Lexan or metal topped pergolas, easily Googled
