Heard a crazy noise last night and chalked it up to limbs falling from high winds… however this morning I couldn't get garage door to open without holding down the button. Even with the chain disengaged it was a nearly impossible to manually lift…

Did some inspection and found two areas that are broken. The spring and then the bracket thst attaches the j-arm.

How hard are these to replace, and nay idea what it cost to pay someone to repair it?

Install one of these $30 garage door opener reinforcement brackets yourself, pay a professional $150-200 to replace the spring, and then you're good to go.

Reading about the spring, I'll agree with yalls advice. For a couple $$$ dollars I'm willing to farm that out, due to safety concerns. I just hope where the bracket ripped the aluminum isn't a "replace the whole door type situation.

I know nothing about garage doors but I do have the card of a guy that owns his own garage door business in Round Rock. Not sure where you are but I did his roof and a lot of his neighbors and then they used him for their doors and liked him. 24/7 services, he says. I don't know where you live.
