Looking if anyone knows/recommends anyone to install in Corpus Christi?

We are in stage 3 water restrictions, and I don't want to stare at dead grass all summer

Thanks

Not in Corpus, but I'm installing it now in backyard tomorrow. Definitely get samples. For the Real Turf brand I'm using the "Absolute" turf model, which seems the most like real grass.

Thanks for the advice. Would you post some pics if you don't mind?

Sure, I'll post pics afterwards. They just installed a French drain underneath so rain won't pool up...the turf does have holes. My plan was to stop using the lawn guy & use a robot mower in front yard (the savings pays for the robot).

We have about 1250 sq ft of turf in our backyard. If you have medium to large dogs, prepare to buy some turf cleaner spray to keep the urine smell down. Especially in summer time. I rotate between 2-3 brands. I also keep a pump sprayer to spray after the dogs pee. We have two Great Danes.

Also, keep in mind the turf gets very hot on bare feet in the summer but a quick spray of water will cool it quickly.

We love ours.

I have always been skeptical of turf but I worked with several customers that have it professionally installed in their yard and it is absolutely amazing stuff. Even in rain it's awesome. I legitimately cannot see a downside to it other than cost and maintenance. The few I've seen have looked good, felt good, easy to clean up, doesn't get muddy. Man, it's the cats meow.

We had it in our first house and then made it a top priority to get it installed when we moved. Between the large dog, ice/snow, and periods where it rains for days it's awesome.

I see you have golf in your username and if you've got the room for adding a putting green you should at least have one quote with it. We did a small putting area off to the side and it's great for just messing around or chipping wiffle balls from one side of the yard.

*It gets insanely hot in Texas summers, unusable hot in direct sunlight if not evap. cooled with water first.
*Sun reflections off windows can melt swaths through the turf (You may need coating on the windows)
*More plastic on the earth is not a good thing.
*Areas of heavy dog/foot traffic will wear down & need to be re-sanded/powerbroomed more frequently to keep looking 100%.

There are places where turf makes sense, but it makes me cringe when I see lots of it going in... because I know in 10 years it'll likely be in a landfill.

I say this as someone who installs the stuff.

I'm in Denver.. but we just finished our backyard project with artificial turf. We love it so far, and our dogs absolutely love it.
Someone above talked about dog urine smell.. since we put our grass down, I've taken the dogs to a spot on side of house where it's rocks and no grass and once they go, then I give treat and let them run in the yard. So far, they haven't peed on the grass. They haven't necessarily only gone where I showed them, but they've only gone on the perimeter of yard where it's mulch/landscaping.I'm not going to let them out unsupervised until I am confident they aren't going on turf though.
So that solves that problem.

Anyway, we installed Natural Fusion 80,

I bought this stuff direct from wholesaler (purchase green) and all materials (turf, herofill, nails, glue, tape) for ~1200 sf was $3800. They not only gave me the contractor price (since I was having a landscape contractor install it) but also they told us our original pick would be in stock in about 3 weeks, and it never came in, so they offered 15% off another selection.. that was on top of the already 25% discount contractor price. so we got about 35% off retail.

I had them cut it into manageable pieces based on where I was going to lay it out, so my largest piece was 40'. (they are all 15' wide) I drew it all up myself and figured out what I needed.
Then I had my landscaper (I work for a commercial GC) bring a 3 man crew to install it.

having said all that, I got a quote from a different company who installs or will just sell material for DIYers. It was a different product of course, but similar face weight/height and infill.
This company wanted nearly $20k for our 1200sf turn key, or about $8k for materials only... which means their labor/overhead was nearly $12/sf. That was a hard no from me... This was back in July, and my landscaper was too busy to do it. So we instead opted to wait 7 months until my landscaper wasn't so busy and just got it done 2 weeks ago. Saved me a boatload of money.

Not sure what your budget is, but outside of DIY, it certainly isn't cheap.

A few pics

The swimspa was the main project.. turf was after though since we tiered the entrance to our yard making it difficult to get a lawnmower back there. We also ripped through most of our irrigation during excavation.

I did keep two sprinkler heads in the main area to help with cooling it off in the summer, but again we are Denver so not sure if that's as much as issue compared to south TX.

Well, dang, that sucks.

Where I am, i don't get enough rainfall to sustain anything right now. I'm not into artificially sustaining grass with my well water. It's all dead. Actually, it was dead last year, but I had brown organic materials still attached to the soil. Now, it's just bare dirt/dust and a weed or two. It's on its own now. I'd love to have my fenced in dog run in this stuff. Even with all of those downsides.

I know in the Dalas FW area that former Aggie legend and Dallas Cowboy is part of a company that installs yard turf, they just did Coach Primes house and Michael Irving just to name a few and many others. Go to his Facebook page for info.
