Was considering buying one of these, can get a pretty good deal on one new, about 50% off. Anyone have experience with these? Any good? Run away?

I will never again buy a Samsung after the issues I had with mine. Perhaps they've improved in the last 5 years. Google Samsung fridge ice maker issues and you'll understand my distaste for the brand. Ice maker failed within a year and never got it working again (including Samsung service tech visit).

Don't. Samsung refrigerators are absolute garbage, the icemaker WILL stop working within a year, the plastic shelves and drawers are constructed in such a way that bits of food and gradoo will get inside of them, but you can't take them apart to clean them, and replacement parts are very expensive. There's a reason you can usually get a really good deal on them. I have one and I've had problems with it since it was a year old. I've had multiple service calls on it, including five while it was under warranty, where they weren't able to fix the problem.

To each their own I guess. I had Samsung refrigerators in two of my homes and never had an issue.

Meanwhile, my friends with LG fridges have had ice maker problems, compressor issues, electric panel failures.

I also never had an issue with our Maytag.

I'm guessing that their refrigerators have taken such a hit to their brand image, they're trying marketing mumbo jumbo like "bespoke."

If my Kitchen Aid ever dies, I'll replace it with a Samsung. We bought a basic one with ice maker from Sears in 2011 and moved it into the game day dwelling, where it performed well. We moved it into the garage of our new home in 2018. It hasn't missed a beat.

The Kitchen Aid has been repaired three times since 2018

My in-laws bought a Samsung a few years ago and the ice maker crapped out after about a year. I don't think they ever got it repaired. The rest of the fridge is still working. They won't buy another Samsung.

I guess it's hit or miss. Our 3yo Samsung has been great. We love it.

Our last fridge was a Samsung and the ice maker went out and it failed to defrost itself after a while. I managed to fix the defrost issue myself but it was a bit of a PITA. Our new LG also had the ice maker go out after about a year.

They all suck.

How did you fix the Samsung defrost issue? I'm assuming you mean the tendency of these French door unit ice makers to build up ice externally to the point where the ice cubes get stuck and won't drop into the plastic bin. Curious because that's the issue with ours. My next door neighbor spent a lot of time researching and implementing a DIY "fix" found on YouTube. It didn't solve the problem but simply extended the amount of time it takes to ice up and block/jam the cubes.
I am not the Six Million Dollar Man, but I might need that surgery. "We have the technology, we can rebuild him!"

Truth is all the brands are hit and miss now. We did a lot of research and went with a Kenmore, which was a rebranded LG. The compressor crapped out and it was over $1k to repair "under warranty." Every tech I talked to said don't do it because the compressors are a known issue and the replacements are even worse.

So we decided to replace. My wife wanted a Samsung. I read the horror stories but at the end of the day, happy wife happy life. Besides 1) I did a lot of research before buying this Kenmore that crapped out and 2) I'd rather replace a $200 ice maker than a $1k compressor.....

That was a little over 5 years ago and that Samsung is still going strong, issue free (knock on wood) in a house we rent out.

Man, now I am second-guessing what my issue was. I know it was an issue with their defrosting design not being sufficient. Maybe it was related to our icemaker. I know I had to pull off the back panel inside the fridge and there was a ton of ice built up. Took forever to defrost and then I basically had to fabricate a thin piece of sheet metal to augment the defrosting system. If I recall the defrosting system basically consisted of a thin piece of metal that gets heated up by the refrigeration unit but the design just doesn't have enough surface area to keep up with the ice sometimes.

Stay away from Samsung refrigerators. The more complexities a fridge has, the easier it is to breakdown (and become more costly).

I would argue that it's best to buy a refrigerator without an icemaker with just a water dispenser. My in laws bought an expensive refrigerator that isn't a Samsung but had similar issues with it just like our Samsung fridge. Those things typically fail because they're not sealed well enough around the ice machine and ice holder so warmer air tends to get inside them and produces block of ice or affects the maker in some way.

So just do yourself a favor and buy a separate ice machine if you want ice and leave the refrigerator to keep your food cold.

I just got one earlier this year. It replaced an old Samsung fridge that did have an ice maker issue after 8 years. In previous refrigerators, I never had an ice maker last more than 2 or 3 years, I was often replacing them yearly.

The dual ice makers do make a lot of ice. There is no through the door option. Based on the research I did, the ice makers are about the simpliest made and easy to replace if needed. My one complaint is that I do not think the space is utilized all that well. Finding space for larger items, even though the thing is huge, is a challenge.

I've been running a Kenmore without an ice maker for over 10 years. Hoping someone still sells a side by side without one when I need to replace it. I'm an ice snob and hate refrigerator ice...clear bagged ice for me lol

I have the 4 door French door Samsung (but not the bespoke version) and I LOVE it! The pull out shelf and drawer system in the freezer sections is fantastic for organizing things. Total game changer.

It is seriously the best/most functional fridge I've ever had.

I think I've had mine almost 3 years, and I've had no issues. The only complaint I have is there are several small dings in the stainless steel, so it seems to dent pretty easily.

I believe the ice maker was redesigned for this fridge. I love it because I don't use much ice, so I have 1/2 of it turned off (it only makes one small bin of ice). No problems with it at all.

I break fragile things, my wife says
Therefore ironinc after ALL the texags whipping of Samsung crap (agreed) that includes refrigerators
that I didn't read prior to buying mine On Sale (a red herring for certain) that I own the best ice maker since 2013 ever (only replaced once instead of on odd years) in all that time and - knock on wood many times - has been bulletproof, better than all others, even GE/Hotpoint that must be retired with a 45acp.
