Has never greened up; yellowing and looking distressed. In DFW.

This assumes you're putting enough water on the grass. The dead grass patches makes me think it can potentially be under watered or overexposed to some form of fertilizer/weed killer.

Widespread yellowing if you're watering appropriately most likely means chlorosis. Your soil is too alkaline to uptake iron and turn the chlorophyll a nice dark green.

Get some chelated iron, 6% EDDHA, put it in a sprayer and spray it on the grass. If the grass greens up in 3-4 days its chlorosis. But you're not done yet as spraying only short term helps, you need to get more chelated iron into the dirt to assist with future iron uptake.

Also, have you put any fertilizer down on the lawn lately?

no fertilizer lately, sort of a slight elevated area there.

I finally bit the bullet last spring and got a lawn service to treat this and another fungal disease I had (TARR). Re-sodded some spots in the fall, and things have really come in thick, lush and green this spring. I have also had almost no weeds. Such a relief to finally get things back in order.

Looks like TARR to me. I prefer to rake out the area and get the thatch out of there and then apply a granular fungicide like Heritage. Will probably have to reapply in 14 days. No fertilizer till things turn around.

I've had the same thing and used scott's disease-ex. Then reapply in a couple weeks.

yes, around Spring Break.

Looks like you may have over-applied. What did you put down?

New fear unlocked. I put down a second application of Barricade yesterday and put a bit more down as it usually isn't as effective as I'd like.

You can definitely over-apply pre-em. I've seen it make most of a yard neon green like OP and I've seen it make a yard look like it's severely drought stressed. I imagine it depends on which one you used or maybe just the stage of the cycle of decline it's in.

That being said, a second app of barricade is fine if you're doing split apps. Likely better.
