I have an insurance claim on my roof. The company is saying they can install Tamko TItan XT or Certainteed Landmark shingles. A previous Texags thread mentioned the Titan XT, but there doesn't seem to be much info out there about Tamko except previous product lines had major issues and the Titan XT has only been around for a few years with no much of a track record, but seems to be a good shingle.

Any thoughts on which way I should go? Thanks in advance.

Certainteed Landmark all day long. 6 nails per shingle.

SwiftStart starter strips

Drip edge

Shadow Ridge or Cedar Crest hip and ridge.

RoofRunner or Supply house brand synthetic underlayment

GAF Stormguard for valley liner (unless you are getting an extended Certainteed warranty in which case everything must be CT branded)

3 n 1 pipe flashing or bullet boots if you have squirrels

Make sure your roofer has CT certification (I'm Select ShingleMaster, but he needs certs to offer extended warranty if you need or want that)

This is a Class III rated IR shingle. (So is the Tamko XT)

My personal experience is that I feel the granules on CT Landmark are finer and shed less during install. However, Most manufacturers state that granule loss is normal and they overcoat them so it may not make a real difference.

If you are in San Antonio/Austin/Houston/CS areas, I have sample boards, in home sell kits, warranty info and I can get you in touch with my CT rep if you want to get into the nitty gritty of CT shingles. I care not which roofer you select so much as you make an informed decision on the product. Seriously, don't hesitate to reach out if you want free info or bouncing questions. I do it for a ton of folks.

Also, make sure he/she certifies the roof as IR I to obtain insurance premium discount, if available.

Pay a bit more for a Class 4 roof. It will last longer and get you a lower premium on your insurance. I saved several thousand per year when I went with a Class 4 shingle.

I agree with Jason on the Certainteed recommendation. If the choice is to go Class 4 impact resistant, the Certainteed Landmark Pro is supposed to be getting upgraded to Class 4 very soon. I was told that installs with 2025 manufacture dates will qualify for it even jf installed before the actual announcement but tall to your roof about that.

My class 4 saved me a couple weeks ago. All my neighbors are getting new roofs.

Jason will be the guide here

Loved to read about Class 4 and ins.rates
but
last time we reshingled in Aggieland pre-ChineseVirus, the price of galvalume was within spitting distance of the top-end-shingles and
IF it wasn't for unknown/delayed/SNAFU medical bills predicted, we would have elected "forever" metal!

Caveat: local deals, time frames, etc. don't always present such ideal temptations and no one wants to live forever in same place ... except us
