Looking at taking a generator out for a client while remodeling their pool and trying to figure out what needs to be done to bypass the automatic transfer switch? I imagine there's a way to lock it in normal mode so it can't switch power feeds since there wont be a generator anymore?

TIA if anyone has any insight into these things.

1. turn power off to house
2. Connect the wires that are going to transfer switch back to the breaker box
2.1 disconnect wires from generator to transfer switch
3. turn house power back on

Plans for generator? If they wanna sell it, helps to have ATS with it. If it just goes away you can disable the transfer mechanism so it stays in normal/utility. You could also gut the ATS and using Polaris connectors to tie the incoming to the outgoing.

If the ATS goes away completely you can set a box in which to make connections.

Appreciate it, so I assume this would require a shut down from the utility?

Depends on setup, but probably.

I think there are some fuses in the ATS that if removed will disable the electro magnet that throws the switch.

I honestly don't this in will throw the switch without the generator providing power to energize the magnet.

I'd have to look at a wiring diagram to be sure.

I assume you don't have a disconnect between the meter and ATS.

It would be ideal to keep the ATS with generator if removing permanently.

You could replace the ATS with a disconnect
