Pool AquaLink RS - Enabling Pool Heater On Its Own

I have noticed lately that occasionally (not always) my Jandy AquaLink RS (older system) is enabling the pool heater / spa heater on its own (notice by looking at my Jandy handheld). I have no programs for the heater and also the temperature on the handheld is well above any temperature for any temperature-based warm-up.

Curious if this has happened to anyone else. I am checking with my pool company but if i can figure it out w/ TexAgs may save a few $$$.

Its not a problem now but I can only imagine the heating bill if it keeps trying to heat my pool in the winter.

Thanks!

Do you have a spa side remote in the coping or on the deck?

No. Just the box by equipment and the handheld device

Wish I could help. Have the same unit. That remote is a POS.

Is there a better option or just a generic statement about an old system?

So the better option would be to upgrade to the iAqualink app, but in your case this would probably require upgrading the board as well as adding the antenna which isn't cheap.

How old is the remote? Is it left outside a lot? Could be a water entry issue and there could be corrosion on the terminals. That's the reason I asked about the spa side remote. We see that a lot in those remotes after 5 years or so. Water features, heaters, lights, etc. turning on by themselves because of an issue with that spa side remote.

I suspect you have the same issue here.

Yea i know a few people with iAquaLink and it is awesome but we are dealing w/ some home renovations that were not expected.

The remote is almost 100% inside. Even if I turn hot tub or pool on outside of program I usually leave it inside. It has never been in or around the pool and li don't think water has ever touched it....

If you don't want to deal with it right now, you can put your heater in standalone mode for the time being to keep the Aqualink from kicking it on. You'd just have to fire the heater at the heater when you put it in spa mode. The Aqualink won't know the difference.

That may be best option. Is that done at the control box? I will talk to my pool guy too but that idea will keep me from spending too much if he has crazy thoughts

Depends, what kind of heater do you have?

It should have a control panel, but it may be wired as a fireman's switch. I'd just tell your pool guy to disconnect the heater from the automation and show you how to control it from the heater panel.

You can easily set the heater to standalone mode without paying someone. Takes about 30 seconds. Send me DM if you want some help. Standalone removes control from the board/remote, meaning you will need to go turn on/off at the unit. My suspicion is your remote is faulty.
