Paint recommendation for kitchen cabinets and shelves

I am planning to paint my kitchen cabinets, including the inside shelves, and wanted to see what the board recommends. I've heard good things about BM Advance but haven't used it before. One concern since I'll be painting the insides is the cure time before I can put items back on the shelves - I don't want to have to wait any longer than necessary for sanity's sake but also don't want stuff to stick or damage the finish.

I'll be doing it myself and rolling/brushing - I don't have a sprayer. Current cabinets are painted with an oil-based paint (SW Pro Classic) so I'll be priming them first.

I appreciate any replies!

Clean with TSP and degreaser. Then use a D Glosser and lightly sand the surface prior to painting and you should be good to go.

Clean them with tsp or simple green solution

Sand them with 220 grit

Wipe them with liquid deglosser

My preference is Sherwin Williams water based alkyd.

You do not have to prime if you sand and degloss and use this water based alkyd paint. Have been using it for 15 years now and have never had any issues. There is also a pro classic version called pro classic water based alkyd that is pretty similar to pro mar 200 water based alkyd.

What ever paint and method you choose, maybe start working on the shelves first? Remove, clean/scuff, paint, set somewhere warm and dry. Run a dehumidifier in that room if necessary. By the time you are done with the project, shelves should be good to go.

I used Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel for my cabinets (even though it's called trim enamel, they recommend it for cabinets too). Super quick cure time, very durable, can be wiped with a soapy towel when it gets dirty and the paint doesn't wipe off, etc. Defintely recommend.

Just met a contractors that only uses water based Sherwin Williams on cabinets. It looked fantastic! He said over time it won't yellow bc it's water based.

Benjamin Moore Scuff-X semi gloss. Hands down the best for cabinets. Usually won't find it at Ace because it's a commercial grade paint built for high traffic areas. A legit paint store that carries BM will have it. Love it in my kitchen. Any smudges wipe off super easy. I sprayed one coat BM fresh start primer, sanded, and 2 coats of the Scuff-X. This paint is tough. Also has mold inhibiting additives to the paint for wet areas.

I'd recommend semi gloss or gloss for the added hardness factor if you are anticipating high traffic use.

Also spend the $250 for a Graco Project Painter plus. Unless you know how to brush and roll, there is a decent chance you won't like the finish.

You will want to buy an FFLP 310 spray tip and a Rac-X tip guard to be able to spray a fine smooth finish for cabinets. Do some tests first to get the feel for it. Spray to thin and you get a fine sandpaper finish, spray to heavy and you'll get paint drips on the cabinets. Find that medium and it's smooth as butter when it dries

If concerned about dry time enamel (oil based) based will not be your friend. Long dry time, stinky, and if brushing will need to thin it properly. Clean up will also be a pain.

Highly recommend Insl-x Cabinet Coat. This was a dream to apply and held up really well. Agree with first post that details prep work.
