Anyone hate their Bosch dishwasher?

If so, what did you replace it with?

I purchased mine in 2018, to replace a 6 year old GE POS.

I've had issues with the Bosch since a few months from purchase. I don't think it was installed correctly, and I had bad odor problems early on. I've also had dishes inside mildew after washing (never had that problem with any other dishwasher in my life). The odor problem kind of resolved itself after I rigged up the hose under the sink, and I've just accepted the fact that it didn't live up to the hype.

I've noticed the last few months it hasn't been cleaning as well.

Now it seems to not be draining. I just took out the filter to clean it, and there was standing water in the cavity underneath the filter.

The bottom racks are rusted and splitting in multiple places.

I do not want another Bosch. Anyone replaced a Bosch with another brand that you are happy with? I prefer a stainless interior/tub over plastic.

I'm tempted to just get the cheapest thing I can find at Lowes, since these don't seem to last more than 5-6 years.

I became a 2014Jun Bosch hater (SHX4AT55UC18 Ascenta) on Day One after years of happiness with KitchenAids.

YIKES! You are describing exactly our Bosch symptoms just weeks before it flooded the neighboring rooms.
Replace ASAP!!!

We found a good deal @ Home Depot (since Best Buy can't be phoned anymore locally) on one of Consumer Reports top picks, sorted for Best Cleaning (not noise or other picky items) 2025Oct - ref. circled DW in attachment.

Bosch
Pros:
  • lasted longer than other brands @ 11 years (past American designs were 5-10years as per $$$ spent)
  • controls top edge of door, EZ to see and program
  • plenty of room between racks for cookie sheets upright
  • no food grinder "toy"/gimmick to break, just the SOP filter to clean
  • The End!
Cons:
  • idiot designed racks for ideal cleaning
  • flatware basket a joke, so reused the better American-designed one from past
  • cleaning judged average vs price = high; this got worse over time
  • cleaning wand ports a pain and became more often with age ... this was a rare chore with American brands
Gotta draw since me got no grammar MasterArch '76

Are you cleaning the Bosch regularly? I know my wife cleans ours once per month to maintain it.

Probably goes for any dishwasher for that matter. If you're not cleaning it regularly, then it likely won't function all that great.

Honestly, I clean it when I think about it. Prob not as often as I should be. But I've had problems since almost day 1.

I think we are gonna take it apart this weekend and see if we can reinstall the drain line. I'm looking at replacement baskets. They range in price from $100-$400, which is ridiculous.

Did some research on replacement units last night, and it seems like all brands get bad reviews.

I know my wife has recommended some of the Whirlpool dishwashers to folks, and she is an extreme research type of person. I do agree that most of these appliances seem to be junk nowadays.

Currently have a KA model KDTE204KPS that I've been very happy with in the 2yrs or so that it's been installed.

Consistently the Bosch and the KitchenAid (highest end possible - don't know model numbers), are the best at what they do.

Neither have food grinders, for a point of reference.

We've have two KA's really liked both - but the older one we had, had a stupid design flaw in that the door vent was directly above the dispenser door and condensation from the air flow was bad enough that it caused water to run down the inside of the door and ruin that electrical component which then ended up frying the mother board - although this took 8 years.

The newer KA we bought as a replacement, is not designed like this. I can't get behind the no heated dry, as even with heated dry lots of our plastics are still wet when they come out.

Zero issues with the Bosch we had at old house and current house.

I clean the filter on the bottom maybe 2x per year.

Both were 800 series with Crystal Dry feature.

I've had a Bosch since about 2018.

It's been relatively good and only major issue is the wiring.

It came with some type of bridge to connect it to 110v and my contractor didn't cinch down the screws enough and wires came out probably from vibration and flipped my breaker.

I cut that bridge off and wired it using wire nuts and taped it nice and tight and no problems since.

Last month I had issue with it not draining even though the drain clean.

I figured out the drain hose going into the disposal was clogged and working like a champ again once I cleaned it out.

It still looks good and I'll buy another Bosch when this one dies.

I actually shocked at how bad my lower basket looks. The plastic coating has come off in multiple different places, and the exposed metal is rusted and frayed (almost like a frayed metal rope).

I'm wondering if the improper installation of the drain kept more moisture than normal in mine and it's caused more rapid deterioration of the interior. This dishwasher looks like it's 10+ years old.

I believe it's an 800 series, but. none of the paperwork I have specifies. It was expensive - $800-$900 when I got it.

I wouldn't recommend Whirlpool/Maytag. I put in a Maytag last spring. It now has a loud solenoid buzzing and also the "stainless steel" front panel is rusting over the top of the vent.

Maytag's response: We don't cover cosmetic issues. Nothing they can do about the loud solenoid buzzing because the unit is still "functioning as intended".

I feel like everything nowadays is just cheaply built trash. This wasn't a low end model.

We love our Bosch. Does a hell of a job and is quiet. Leaves a little more water than desired but is fine if the door is cracked right at the end and left for a couple of hours.

We've had our Bosch about 5 years now. No complaints and no rusting or mildew issues.
