Anyone have experience or recommendations on best type of glass for front doors and full height windows for enhanced-security?

Laminated Impact resistant glass?

Polycarbonate security glazing? (Defense lite)

Other?

Reporting as former outside/drive-thru bank teller, then trainer behind "bullet-proof" glass during the Dallas armed holdups + Architect designing for banks, near golf courses and residential security areas (think art, 1st ed. books, etc.)

If a Dallas teller in the 70's: during an armed holdup, duck down away from the thick angled glass to behind the masonry walls b/c a 45ACP striking the same place more than once WILL get through. The suggestion was that the glass was extra thick windshield glass, easily 1/4-1/2" tk. The exact recipe still unknown.

Polycarbonates will scratch, so the golf course houses went SOP tempered glass & replaced as required, many time with insurance. Some did have laminated glass money.

Secure areas residential most always used laminated glass. The police mantra was "by the time they finally break through, we'll BE there to catch them".

What you'll read about is that getting to the ultimate will require multiple layers that include laminated, polycarb, films, etc.

I can report that the research may begin eagerly but the zest quells quickly when the price sheets come out to view. SOP seems to rein thereafter.

Some of us in the 80s got single pane windows but rated for high winds, thinking all those kids would shatter some of them with baseballs, etc. NOT a single one! One might find a pellet gun hole .... So lesson learned was that one might not have to throw a lot of money at glazing to be stronger than wishes.
Gotta draw since me got no grammar MasterArch '76
