My initial look into hiring someone to install a coating on my 3 car garage looked really expensive.

Has anyone done it themselves? It doesn't look too hard but I bet all of the steps have to followed to the "T"!

How much cost to do it yourself ?

I did my 2-car garage and my 3-bay workshop at my last house. I used a complete DIY kit from StoneCoat Countertops because I had used their stuff on river tables and such previously. Their customer service is fantastic, you can literally FaceTime them to show them what you're looking at if you get stuck.

It's not hard, but like any epoxy pour it's as much about the prep as it is the pour. The kit came with a prep for filling cracks and joints and cleaning the concrete. I bought a $25 floor squeegee at Lowe's, which was probably my best decision.

For the 2-car garage it was around $900 including the little flakes. It took around 2 hours to do the prep and cleaning and around 4 to do the epoxy pour. Cure time is listed at 24 hours, but I think I kept the door shut for the whole weekend and told the wife to park outside for the whole week

That is super helpful. I am moving into a new house and was thinking about coating the floor as a nice to have….but not a need to have.

I will call StoneCoats Counter Tops.

I used the rustoleum kit at home depot. Use something better. It is ok, but I would use a more expensive kit if I could do it over again.

Recommend reading around on allgaragefloors .com also. Depending on what you're after, a sealant type of product (as opposed to a coating) may fit the ticket.

Generally speaking, most sealants are easier to DIY than most coatings.
