So I'm new to the hood and want some good recs for local bars/pubs/eateries/etc. I'm right at 10 and Callaghan so the NW side. I've heard good things about Wurzbach ice house and it's right around the corner. Also, is the local A&M club active?

Welcome neighbor. I'm around the same place. I honestly do not go out much, but I do like hanging out at big hops off huebner. But that's only good if you like beer and a more laid back atmosphere. I'm too old for anything else. Otherwise, I'm downtown.

Aggie park is very active.

I like laid back. Jeans and a tshirt. A beer. I'm 32 so don't want the college scene. Not about impressing peoe. And I don't go out often either but like a good happy hour/wind down spot

Flying Saucer is pretty close. There is a Little Woodrows over by the Med Center.

Any bar with trivia worth looking at?

Flying saucer does it on Tuesday nights. Take 8 friends from different backgrounds/majors with you, stay sober, and read the news for 5 days prior. It can be fun, but you're drinking while playing trivia, not the other way around. Categories get crazy specific, like Mario villians, Rap album covers, and German titles of 80's NBC sitcoms. And I'm not even joking.

Little Woodrow's does it on Tuesday as well. Much more laid back style and feels more like killing time while having a beer.

Wurzbach ice house was real laid back. Went on a Sunday, $2 beers, only 4 tv's and menu was really basic. But the beer was cold.

Went yesterday. I really liked it. Good spot to grab a beer after work.

Since you're close to it, Mamacitas at 10 and Callahan is a great place to see teachers get tipsy after school.

Do you speak Somali or Arabic? If not, you will soon. Friend of mine taught at Martha Mead. Had a class full of Somalians named Mohammed. And there's a reason I-10 and Wurzbach is called Wurzbachistan.

I live in the area and my kids went to Colonies North ES. Considerable refugee students enrolled there nowadays.

Some of my neighbors no longer shop at Wurzbach HEB. They go to Alon instead. Me, I'm not quite that ethnocentric.

Cherry, if you haven't been already, go to Martini Bar behind North Star Mall on a Friday or Saturday night.

To my knowledge, no. Karaoke during the week and Wayne Harper's band on weekends.

Wayne Harper can do a spot on Neil Diamond impression. Good times there.

Martini Ranch is on West Avenue inside 410. I wouldn't hang out on that stretch of West Avenue after dark.

Thirsty Horse, when it first opened, was great. Lots of Aggies would go there. I think over time it has started to pull an older as well as less-desirable clientele. However, if you're in the area and want to go dancing, not pay a cover, and enjoy people watching you can have a lot of fun.

Just sold my house on Cedar. Moved for a better school district - someday we'll get back down there and start another restoration project.

There's some excellent money to be made in Terrell Hills, especially if you add square footage.
