I'm going to be down in the New Braunfels area soon looking at potential locations for a couple of restaurant and retail stores. For those really familiar with the town, where should I start?

There are several good restaurant options in downtown (Huisache, McAdoos, Myrons, etc). There are also a lot of fun and good options in Gruene. Clear Springs has good fried catfish on the other side of NB.

Probably need to be more specific on retail stores. Do you want artsy, touristy type stuff? Again I'd say Gruene or downtown.

There is a new big retail center at 35/306 on the north end of town with tons of big stores.

Moved to area in January so still learning but agree with bam recommendations. Like the Alpine Haus if you want Getman but it is small so make reservations. Be sure to get order of onion rings (small!) if you go to Clear Springs. Wife loves Huische Grill

Yes, I should have clarified. I am representing a couple of restaurants/retailers that may be looking at the area. Where is the major shopping area, and main growth area of town? Thanks!

Creek side (shopping center by Buccees)will be your best bet unless you plan on developing a new shopping center. That and out 46 by HEB. What type of restaurants?

If you are looking for a good spot i would suggest Loop 337 and HW 46. There is a massive residential development that will be happening here in the next few years at that location so it would be a safe spot to land as a developer.

Huisache, Myrons for a classier place.

Pats and TJs for a good burger.

Clear Springs for the onion rings and catfish.

El Napolito and Hannas for good breakfast tacos.

Depends on the type of establishments you're thinking about putting in. Are you catering to the summer tourists? Or relying on the locals for the majority of your business?

The HEB shopping center at the corner of 337 and 46 would be ideal for the locals, especially when Veramindi (SP?) gets cranked up. This would be better suited for locals and should be plenty of potential spaces available.

Creekside off of 35 (by Bucees) is booming and would be a good spot for either retail or food and they have new expansion going on daily here.

If you want to have a small specialty shop - aimed more at tourists - then you may want to look at the area around Gruene (Old Gruene, Cotton Crossing, etc.), Downtown, or Schlitterbahn (A lot of the older houses in this area are zoned for commercial now).

Better market now and for the future - New Braunfels or San Marcos? Similar? Thoughts?

City council is ****ing up San Marcos imo. There is a great spot on the river that use to be river pub that shut down. Run it right and you can make a fortune. I'm not sure if the woman that owns it is willing to sell/lease though. I've heard she's a little crazy

San Marcos has a ton of growth due to the school but it's just that-students. Their school district is terrible. NB has two great districts so it attracts a ton of families. Just depends on your demographic.
