"Entitled "Open Hand, Open Mind, Open Heart," the original work by artist Douglas Kornfeld of Boston consists of perforated steel and metal tubing. It's located at Pittman-Sullivan Park, 1101 Iowa St., facing a view of downtown San Antonio. There is limestone block seating at the sculpture's circular base, making for a peaceful retreat.
It was inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.'s message of non-violence. It's an interactive piece.
As one steps through the lower stainless steel ring, one's hand is open, mimicking the open hand of the sculpture. This action symbolically connects the visitor to the piece and King's philosophy of non-violence, according to Kornfeld."
OK then, seems like Mr. Kornfeld is quite the opportunist to collect a paycheck for something that looks like it came from the cast off aisle at the dollar store. Over/under of 6 days before tagging and general disrepair followed by repeated sandblasting and repainting at the cost of several grand an event, rinse, repeat.
Puro San Antonio.
