My daughter has a single soccer match Sunday at MCAllister park and were driving in from Houston and then heading back after. Suggestions for non chain restaurants in that area. Thought about driving back through New Braunfels just to give me more options.

You can be anywhere in town from that location in 15 minutes. You looking for anything specific?

Looking for casual and local. BBQ, burgers, chicken fried steak etc. hate eating chain type food and she's starving after playing 90 minutes

Momacs is next to the park it is a burger joint and will be loaded with soccer teams playing pick up games on the playground in the back

I honestly would make the 20 minute drive south to Josephine Street. It's petty much on your way out of town and pretty damn good.

I've always thought augies was sub par...

Check Longhorn Cafe, several locations that have all you want except the BBQ, casual and good selection.

Sorry to add something to the thread that isn't food suggestions, but McAllister Park is not on the North West side. You can call it North East or North Central and I wouldn't be able to disagree.

I do have a suggestion though!

Miss Ellie's Pizza. From McAllister Park, head south on Jones-Maltzberger, take a right (west) on Bitters/Starcrest, and it's at the corner of Bitters and Heimer. There is a brand new Walgreen/CVS on the corner. It is in that little L-shaped center.

Pizza by the slice, calzones, garlic bread balls. They have it all. It's fantastic pizza.

Great suggestion. Wife and I found them a few years ago, and one of the best pie's in SA.

Recently found Capo's, on northbound side of Blanco near 1604. Better than Miss Ellie's. Dam good pizza. Get it to go, as there is only minimal seating in a narrow store front.

Some good suggestions previously made. Of those, Josephine St. offers the most varied menu, and is really not out of the way.

Near McAllister, say within 5 miles, there are a few options:
As OWG said, Miss Ellie's pizza is terrific, and is only 3-4 miles away. Miss Ellie's

El Chapparal tex-mex is not far either, and is pretty good. El Chapparal

Thai Chili at Jones-Maltsberger and Thousand Oaks is good. Thai Chili

Can grab a burger at Chester's. Not the best in town, but pretty good. Several locations convenient to the park. Chester's via Yelp

I've had Capo's a couple times, I think it's pretty damn good. Want to try Ellies.

I'm actually grateful for this thread because I learned about the opening of Capos. Rick Perno is the guy who started Goomba's Pizza at 410 & Blanco. He started to franchise locations and had some trouble. I always enjoyed his pizza, so I'm going to make it a point to check out his new spot and say Howdy.

What was for dinner?
