I was thinking of driving to SA on Sunday from Dallas. How is 35 down that way? Is the weather that bad I should avoid if?

I prefer to take 281.

Should be fine.

Austin, as usual, should be a effin mess though with the Formula 1 race just off the new tollway.

It's only bad between Hillsboro and San Marcos.

I second the 281 recommendation. SOOO much more relaxing, takes about 30 minutes longer IF everything goes smoothly on 35. One traffic jam can consume any time savings and only compounds the aggravation that is inherent to 35, even on a good day.

I'm pretty unlucky driving 35 up and back to DFW...taken me 6+ hours the last few times because of traffic or accidents (and that's with taking the tollway around Austin).

Take 281 if you have to drive.

All you have to do is pull up where you go to on the gmail or waze app and hit "go". It takes everything into account including current traffic conditions.

It's not perfect but way better than the days before smart phones.

At the lower left of the screen, there's an icon you can hit to get to "routes" where it will show you 3 major route options and the times associated with those routes. If a less frustrating route is available and it's only a few minutes extra, I'll take it.

I've been using Waze for years. I'm very familiar. Just pointing out that you should still use what you know to be true when making routing decisions (i.e. avoid I-35 through Austin at all costs).

Take 281. It's a clear road and there will be maybe a couple of trucks versus the hundreds you'll deal with on I35.
