I may be in the market for a new CPA. I currently still use my parents' CPA back in the RGV, but last year wasn't as smooth as previous years since my taxes got more complicated. Truly not wanting to knock the guy...I've been pleased with the money he's helped me save and the advice he's given me, but he just doesn't have many big company clients, and I want to make sure that 1) all of my various transactions are being treated as they should tax-wise and 2) I'm not missing anything in terms of things I should be doing to minimize my tax burden.
What I mean by that is I work for a publicly traded company and part of my compensation is stock options, stock purchase plan at a discount, restricted stock units, etc. and he doesn't have much experience in that area (most people who would use a CPA in the RGV are small business owners rather than megacorp employees).
I'm also finding that as my finances get a little more complicated, I'm feeling like I want to have the option of a face-to-face meeting to explain some things. Any recommendations for someone familiar and comfortable with handling options/share purchase/restricted stock transactions? It probably won't be for this tax year. I'd like to be able to meet with any new CPA after tax season calms down and be ready for next year's taxes.
