Apparently there is a new cell phone law in addition to the hands free crap. SAPD traffic enforcement WILL pull you over for having a cell phone or mobile device laying on the center console... if that console also happens to be doing 79 in a 65 on I10. Wasn't paying attention, already thinking about work, and apparently blew by the cop sitting on the shoulder just past a hill. And now I get to pay the idiot tax.

Or so I tried.

Went to sanantonio.gov/court to request defensive driving. It couldn't find the ticket. If found me, as it listed a ticket I had dismissed about five years ago, but not this one. Emailed the court to ask about it. They replied asking for some more info because they can't find it either. Is it a glitch in the Matrix, did the cop have sympathy on a CHL holder and forget to press the pound key, or just another administrative F up that's going to delay getting this thing tossed?

For your entertainment, I don't remember if I ever posted this here. But it might come in handy if you ever happen to meet Jason, Clement, or Reuben.

How many days between the ticket and when you inquired? Some systems are linked to the internet. A lot are still manual and require the cop to submit the document and fit someone to enter it. That takes a few days.

Ticket on the 5th. Emailed today. Considering they have a handheld device a la UPS/Fed Ex that scanned my registration sticker, and with which I used a stylus to sign, I don't think they're paper filing anything. There's only 24 days between the ticket date and my appearance date. You'd think it would exist considering it's just shy of halfway to the appearance date.

If I get pulled over for using my cellphone and lock the screen so the cop can't check to see if I was actively calling/texting/googling, etc. can he prove I was on the phone? What are the odds they won issue a subpoena for that?

From the three folks I know who've gotten phone tickets, you're guilty until proven innocent. One was a dumbass and had it to his ear while driving. He admits it. #2 picked up his phone for a sec at a red light. Cop was under the overpass watching. #3, before the current no texting law, just had the phone in his hand. It was in his hand when he got in the truck, and just kinda stayed there. Had he been carrying a pipe wrench, he'd been driving while holding a pipe wrench. Just how he is.

I don't really care about the ticket. I sped, I got caught, 5hit happens. But for ****s sake don't make me beg you to let me take care of it.

Court finally responded. Said they were told the officer was out of the office for mandatory training and his tickets were delayed. Uh huh. And my dog ate my homework.

If there were ever any doubt that speeding tickets are a revenue grab...

I had zero faith mailing a DD request would A. make it there, B. actually be received and processed should it happen to make it there, and C. would all happen in time to prevent a warrant. considering the "you can mail it" response was only a couple of days before my appearance date. I'd finally just accepted I was gonna have to burn a couple of hours to go down there. Then the morning of the appearance date, for S&G's I check again online for the ticket. It still couldn't find it by citation number, but this time was finally able to find it by my DL number.

Paid the fee online, uploaded the required copies of my DL, insurance, and signed DD request form. Somewhere about 15 hours later I got an email with the DD approval and instructions, complete with the order rubber stamped by an unknown Muni court judge. Bada boom, bada bing. Just like a machine.

The kicker is the day after that, I get yet another email from some online DD outfit toting the fact that they are the only outfit who can electronically file the DD certificate with the CoSA court. If true, how did they swing that, and how did they get my email?

FYI, defensivedriving.com is pretty easy to use, but HOLY BALLS are the videos B-O-R-I-N-G. Even just letting it run in the background, it's worse than a dull fan, tires on a highway, or a fat plate of turkey soaked in Lunesta-Scotch pudding.

And most importantly, there is a gray Dodge Charger SAPD ghost car that likes to hide on I-10 inbound around Huebner and Wurzbach. Think I've seen him every other day since he got me a month ago.

Thanks for the heads up. I get on inbound 10 at Callaghan and haven't seen any or hardly any LEO into downtown for the past six years.

Edit: Burdi, had your registration been current, you'd probably not been ticketed.

Probably.

Been pulled over in the past by SA Park Police and AHPD for the same thing. Didn't get a ticket those times. Guess my luck ran out.

It was just weird having that guy follow me for so long only to get such a lame ticket.

So, they have 2 years from the date of the ticket issued to the time they have to file with the court. Sometimes, they forget. Sometimes, they delay quite a bit. Longest wait I had with a client was just shy of 2 yrs. They filed, no notice, and a warrant was issued for FTA.
