410 and Broadway (more or less).

Opened up last night. Line around the building at 2:00 today.

Jim's has been working on this concept for a couple of years. They knew no one would wait 7 minutes for a charcoal-broiled burger in a drive through line. Technology lets them do this is 2 minutes, it appears. Excellent burgers - taste must like the Jim's across the street.

Thin onion rings are included on the menu.

Looking forward to trying it sometime next year once the wait dies down.

Still going to give Hasslocher hell for the 30.07 decision on the Jim's properties when I see him at our annual fishing trip next month...

But good food!

We had them last night. Good Burger without a lot of grease. A little heavy on the mayo for my taste, but still good and fresh.

Tasty Onion rings.

Will eat again.

Do they have Dr Pepper?

We went last night and it was delicious! The patties were juicy with a slightly pink center.

Yes they have Dr. Pepper.

Expect a long line if you go during peak hours. It still moves fairly quick.

What you young guys don't understand is that this is a retro operation. The Frontier Burgers were the cornerstone of the family fortune. There were Frontier Burgers all over San Antonio. Then over time the business morphed into the Jim's Coffee Shops. If you go back a little further, the start of the business was renting bicycles and
selling watermelon slices in Brackenridge Park.

To tie this to A&M, I was at the Frontier on the Austin Hiway, listening to the game when Edd Harget ran for the touchdown and beat Tech after time ran out.

Where was the Frontier Burger on Austin Highway? I am always trying to learn more of the history of the area.

Near the McDonalds, IIRC. There was one on Broadway across from Breckenridge too.

Broadway location

Jim got his start renting bikes, and cooking burgers in that park.

Near the store that used to be on the Austin hwy was the Frontier commissary where all the meat was butchered, the onion rings sliced and the dressing made. The site is now the WalMart.

The store in Breckenridge park was across Tuleta from the Witte. The Witte storage building is on that site now.

The family had done a lot of good for the city over the years. Glad to see the Frontier drive in resurrected. More are planned. Good product.

There was on Fredericksburg Road and Club and on the south side at Military and Goliad.

Definitely one of my new favorites.

The milkshakes and ice cream sundaes are just average, but the Frontier burger and the fries are fantastic.

When you come south on Harry Wurzbach, take the right at Eisenhauer and then the quick left towards Austin Hwy passing in front of Astro Bowl. As you sit at the traffic light in front of Astro, look directly across Austin Hwy. That's where the old Frontier Drive-in was. Frontier Meat & Supply had the commissary immediately behind the Drive-in.

Part of where Walmart sits was a drive-in theater while the other part was a 9-hole par 3 golf course which was part of the old Seven Oaks Hotel & Conference Center. Seven Oaks spectacularly burned down about 10 years ago. It was really nice during it's heyday but was in rough shape during the 90s before closing.

Finally tried Frontier burger this week. It was good but nothing special. Pepsi products will keep me from going back.
