Should we be excited for this or disappointed that the city wont strive for the majors

I don't know if getting the AAA would eliminate getting a Major League team in the near future, if the stadium is done right.

I'm very interested to see where they find space for this sucker though.

Going from AA to AAA ball does nothing for me. The stadium should be on the NE side on the 35 corridor. The Toyota soccer field area would be good.

I would go downtown for MLB, but not for a minor league game.

no offense but that area is crap, industrial meets suburbs isnt really appealing.

There wouldn't be enough support for a MLB team's 81 home games in San Antonio. Unless they were named Cowboys or Spurs.

It might be a "crap" area but it's a lot better for people driving in from Schertz and New Braunfels vs driving all the way into downtown.

Yea but downtown could use this, a lot of revitalization is going on downtown right now why not add a stadium

All I know is I won't drive to Wolffe Stadium on the west side for the Missions and I won't drive downtown for any AAA team.

I would drive to NE SA for the Missions or whatever AAA team was there.

I could see myself going downtown for at least a dozen games a year of it was MLB. I'd probably go to about the same number if it was MLB in NE SA, too.

We were just having this discussion last week passing Wolff. I have no desire to drive all the way down there to take the kids to a game.

The city is improving the infrastructure around Cherry Street and the Hays Street Bridge where the brewpub is going. I have heard rumors that if they get to a point where this happens the stadium will be somewhere near there. Ironic that the County Judge is the one quietly pushing this (and pushing hard) because the stadium with his name on it now will probably be obsolete if this happens.

The city is improving a lot of things downtown will be changing for the better especially when the new frost tower goes up. Hopefully if San Antonio can attract some major corporations to move here we can get an MLB team

I'm all for revitalizing downtown. I think the developments down there over the last 5-10 years have been awesome. I guess as much as anything I'm just not as excited about minor league baseball if it's not super convenient. Heck, we are going to the new soccer team opening night Saturday and I couldn't care less about soccer. It's convenient and affordable, though.

My bet is next to the lone star brewery. You've got a ton of apartments going up. The brewery is on schedule for revitalization. you have all that space you need if you can get the metal yard and/or the paper recycling place to sell out.

The Wolff has got to be one of the easiest access/egress sporting venues ever. Quick in and out plus never any traffic on 90 and 410 especially on summer evenings.

It may be easy and accessible but let's be honest it's far away from the epicenter of town and its in a semi sketchy area

San Antonio Austin would support a MLB team. Just need more corporations. I'm not implying putting something between SA and AUS like the DFW area. But don't kid yourself. What's holding back a team is Major companies. Downtown is where it needs to be if that's the plan. No question. The dome. The SBC center project are piss poor planning. Spurs on the east side still is mind boggling to me but I don't get the triple A thing unless it's a pilot for something bigger

Different strokes for different folks, but after my experiences at different sporting events in my life I've come to prefer the venues that are not in highly congested metropolitan areas.

I think Nelson Wolff thinks he is the second coming of Roy Hofheinz.

...so will the team name be the Wolffs? or stick with the correct spelling of Wolves?

I always thought his name should be Nelson Porkk. He sure loves to spend other people's money.

Perhaps the team should be called the Carnitas.

Speaking of mascots, there was a Facebook post going around showing a new mascot for to represent the Tower of The Americas. It looked a giant blue churro.

I'm surprised at the negativity about downtown. I get that it used to suck and the olds hate driving more than a few miles but downtown and especially the areas just north and south of downtown have really come up in the world over the last 5 years. Putting a stadium in Schertz is not going to attract anyone from Austin that wouldn't drive the extra 10 miles downtown.

I'm not a baseball guy but I know baseball viewership has been in decline for at least a decade. I assume that would also be seen in the attendance numbers. Should the city be investing millions into a sport (minor league at that) in decline?

It should be downtown. AT&T Center and Wolfe Stadium are in terrible parts on the city where a crazy person wouldn't even attempt to try and develop. After events in the Alamo Dome or festivals downtown it is nice to be able to walk to bars and restaurants in the area. It would further help development in the area and adds another attraction for tourists to easily get to.

I bet this will cause light rail to be pushed again.

I'd always hoped for Chupacabra mascot in the San Anto, but I can get behind the Carnitas...

I think the City was also dumb to purchase Toyota Field . Unless they plan on building a downtown soccer stadium dont be surprised if we dont get an MLS team either. Toyota Field is in a sh**** location as well. I really hate the way the idiots who run this city think that by building a stadium in a less developed area will supposedly bring developers to that area.

I would go to a AAA game downtown. I think it would work. Downtown SA is ridiculously easy to traverse compared to other major cities. And it's ~20 min from almost any area of the city.

the only problem i see is parking. many residents dont go downtown cause theyre too cheap to pay for parking.

Make it affordable and family oriented and people will come downtown.

Dollar beer nights on the off days. I love the idea, and it has worked elsewhere.

I'm sold if the Sheryl Sculley orders police to keep the riff-raff away from the stadium like she did with the area around her luxury condo

The AT&T Stadium when built was sold to the public as an investment in the East side that would upgrade the area and improve crime in the area. NOT ! Any new facility to be used by the citizens of San Antonio, as opposed to the tourist, should be built in a more assessible, safer part of town.
