Extra fancy, or just upscale-ish good food?

I really dig McAdoo's.

Need Anniversary type dining place later this month, in or very near to New Braunfels. Any suggestions appreciated---thinking steak/seafood fare.

Myron's is a good steak place. Certainly appropriate for an anniversary dinner.

Yeah. Macadoos and myrons are the go two. Huisache grill is nice too. All have good atmosphere.

I concur with all three of those recommendations. Good food had in all three places.

Agree with all the above. You could throw The Gruene Door in there as well, great food but less of atmosphere.

Agree with above poster. If for some reason you need an additional suggestion, or want a place that still hasn't been discovered, try here:

Have been 2x. Once for drinks, once for dinner. Great new spot and the owners are super nice. Menu is good, but I think it needs more traffic to survive. Hope it does. Easily the best spot in Gruene, and I'd put it on par with Myrons/Macadoo's for quality of food. Atmosphere is a little more casual.

The Reel is owned by the Macadoos folks I think and is a slightly nicer atmosphere. I'd go Myron's or The Reel. Huisache is good I guess, but, the food is completely uninspired. It's like the owner took a couple of food network chef cookbooks and circled their favorite recipes. I never leave Huisache feeling like I got my money's worth

The Reel is owned by a couple who were the managing partners of McAdoos when it first opened. They are no longer associated with it.

Huisache, Alpine Haus and McAdoos are all good choices because you can eat and stroll to other bars. Now that most places will send you a text when your table is almost ready I like to go to Huisache or McAdoos and put my name on the list and then hang out at the Pour Haus while I wait.

Gennaros is great, I would check it out if you have never been. The one on Common won't open until late May I believe.

Thanks for all the input. We are going to start with McAdoos--wife is big on seafood.

Sea Island opened up several months ago. Right behind Bucees. Not fine dining, though.

Forgot about the Reel.

Better menu and food than McAdoos.

It's, wait...

It sucked bad when I went there for lunch one day. Long John Silvers would have been better. Shrimp was overcooked and cold, so were the fries. Cole slaw had giant chunks of jalapeno's in it making in inedible.

Gennaro's opening May 3. I've heard about this place for awhile. I can't believe it took so long to open. I guess it took sometime to clean off the Johnnie Carinos funk.

Had the fondue at McAdoos for lunch and could not eat it all. Tons of seafood and cheese with good bread. Good recommendation. A little expensive but to me we got our monies worth. Thanks for the recommendation and we will look forward to trying some of the other places on our next visit.

I'd concur with all recommendations. One comment on Alpine Haus, call for reservations. It is fairly small so limited seating. We stopped in on a Saturday shortly after moving to the area. My wife started chatting with the hostess in German and she was able to accommodate us.
