Have you had a wrought iron fence installed here in town?

I'm looking to install about 140 feet of wrought iron fencing around a pool in the backyard, some 4' and some 6' tall. Unless there is a compelling reason not to, I'll just use a powder coated ameristar fencing product. I'm looking for a recommendation on a fencing contractor here in SA.

I have a wrought iron fence that needs some work- one post is rusted at the ground and the entire thing needs to be painted.

I have a name or two at home from friends in the home building business. Will post them when I get home later today.

How did your fence job work out?

Eh. I'll let a non-response do the talking (to avoid bashing even more). But it wasn't pleasant.

I learned a few things I would gladly share with anyone looking at an Ameristar fence. Good product. Installation provides some room for error as usual, so contractor choice is important.

What did you learn about Ameristar installs?

I had Mike give me an estimate but we had a rough start.

Basically, it'd be wise to confirm with a photo before you agree to the Ameristar model based on a general description in his quotes. To make sure he orders it correctly the first time.

Lock in on timelines early. Mine dragged out a month because of poor timeliness. Work schedule, etc.

Confirm specific details regarding gate size and swing direction before they do the work and make assumptions on their own.

Confirm spacing from grade to the bottom of the fence. (Missed this. For leaf blowing clearance, in my case. And posts got cut too short to raise the panels)

Insist they Do lots of touch up paint on posts and panels and gates before they are installed in place. Otherwise it happens after and you get incomplete coverage and issues with overspray.

Confirm gate latch style in writing, before execution.

Those were the main gotchas. It's gonna work out ok. He is going to make everything right.
