Traveling from Houston to Kerville. Usually take 410 or go through downtown but my map is telling me to take 1604. I'll likely be hitting SA right about rush hour.

There are a couple of traffic lights around Randolph Air Force Base. After that it is all highway, you will hit some slow downs around Heubner or NW Military. Nothing too bad, if you are used to Houston traffic you may not even notice the slow downs.

Thanks. So, you'd recommend 1604 then?

There is construction on 10W just before Boerne and that stacks up pretty bad. I would let your navigation route you at the time. Just never can tell.

For sanity's sake, I would consider going 46.

After clearing the lights around Universal City and the Judson area you won't hit anymore before reaching I-10.

Give some thought to what the man said about 46.

Depending on where your leaving from (King's English) in Houston an alternative would be 290 to 21 to 71 and back to 290......Don't come into Austin on 290 as that puts you on I-35. 290 to Johnson City to Fredericksburg and 16 into Kerrville. Really beautiful drive.

1604 sucks at rush hour. Just because there aren't any lights between 35 and 10 doesn't mean you won't stop a lot.

It's not Houston, but 1604 North side BLOWs at rush hour. You can get stopped from about O Connor to Redland, then stone oak all the way to I-10. I think you are way better off staying on I-10 the whole way.

Agree 100%

1604 around SA to east and west bound I-10 is usually preferred, EXCEPT during rush hour. Best just to go through downtown, most work related traffic is lighter on Fridays but 1604 traffic will be bad no matter.

You'll also be slowed from 1604/10 interchange on the north side to Ralph Fair Rd on Friday afternoons.

Alright, it's consensus -- you need to cancel your trip.

Then again, you can take I-10 to Columbus and pick up 71 and proceed as earlier mentioned.

There is no better route than 10 west to northbound 410, onto 35 into downtown SA then back onto 10 west.

Take 10 the whole way, 1604 traffic sucks and 46 is going to add alot of time because its so much longer.

Some friends come in from Houston every other month or so. They've tried 10, 90, 1604 South, etc. to get from CyFair to Helotes. Their biggest problem seems to be just getting from Katy to the Bexar County Line.

And one more vote for 10 all the way.

According to Google maps, seguin to Kerrville via 10 is 103 miles. Via 46, 100 miles.

Without traffic, 10 is much faster. At rush hour, who knows?

Exiting 46 in Seguin and take it to Boerne, then get back on 10 to Kerrville. The time is about the same in the best of traffic conditions and faster during rush hour. I also think it is a better drive.

Agree. We live near Boerne and this is close to what we do when driving to Houston.
