My former company never properly registered me in Texas despite living here for the last two years. We relocated from Knoxville to San Antonio, June of 2020. I cannot file for unemployment while I search for a new position because my former employer sporadically filed me living in TN for some quarters but living in Texas for other 1/4s. They will not respond about fixing my residency. I've never taken unemployment but figured I might as well since I've contributed to it for around 50 years.
The law firms I've spoken to only want high $$$, big cases.
Anyone know of an attorney who can help me?

Have you filed a complaint with the Texas Workforce Commission? It seems they would be interested as your company underpaid them when putting you down as working in Tennessee.

Agreed. And free. Your prior employer owes Texas state unemployment taxes for income you've earned while working here.

Leave it to you to find a way to stick it to the former employer and solve a problem. That's why you are the commish.

Also recommend going through TWC. They are there for this type of stuff and free.

I had an issue with a former employer not paying me for work I did before I left. I filed a claim with TWC. They contacted the employer and within a few weeks the employer had a change of heart.

Be advised if you are filing unemployment you have to document that you are looking for a job to continue collecting it.
