What the heck is going on in San Antonio? The past two years we've driven down from Austin to play some of the private schools in baseball and the area around I-35 and 1604 plus extending down 1604 looks like a war zone. Barrels and construction debris all over and it seems like not much work going on. It has been a total cluster going that way. I am going to come in from Blanco for the remaining games this season!

San Antonio traffic during construction is still 1000% easier and less frustrating to navigate than Austin.

It all sucks. But the last two years driving to San Antonio has been an exhausting beat down. Probably part of it is that it is just not the same city I lived in years ago.

It's awful. I drive a lot around SA for work and it's gotten brutal. I hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel but it seems never ending.

I think the only valid complaint is how much construction there is. There are a ton of projects/parts of projects going on at the same time.

Having said that, and I can't believe I'm saying this, they seem to be doing a good job. The construction mostly makes sense, they mostly are keeping traffic moving/diverted as best as possible, and they are moving relatively fast.

I'll die on this hill, but driving in San Antonio is so much easier than other cities.

I lived in San Antonio 25 plus years ago and it has changed so I tend to use my navigation app to get around. I missed two of my exits last night coming home because the app was I guess not up to date with all the changes and the roads were poorly marked with the construction for someone who lives out of town and does not drive there frequently. I was trying my best to just use the old fashioned road signs but ended up having to make U turns at the next exits when I realized we had passed the one we needed.

I drive from 10/410 on the NW side to the north side of NB each morning and back home each evening. The construction sucks, but it beats driving in Austin any day.

Yep. Avoid 35 and 1604 if you can. When I have to go to Austin, I go through Blanco-Henly.

docb, all due respect, you just sound like you want to complain about San Antonio. I'm sorry you're having trouble navigating through construction, but so is everyone else in every other city in Texas. People are moving here in waves, and this is the price to pay.

Again, I would rather miss my exit in San Antonio than be stuck in my car in that ****ehole 70 miles north of here. I've also never once had a homeless person punch my driver side window because I wouldn't let them wipe down my windshield with a nasty rag while driving in San Antonio. It's happened to me twice in Austin in less than a year.

You'd be completely wrong. I lived in San Antonio previously and loved it. Just saying that the construction situation in a cluster funk. All big cities can be bad but the last two years I've driven down to San Antonio it seems to have not improved around 35 and 1604 at all. And yes Austin has its fair share of homeless vagrants. San Antonio had a bunch downtown back when I lived there. I don't know if it's the same. But IMO both San Antonio and are Austin are very nice places to live. I'd live in those two cities over Houston or Dallas.

TexDoT projects on 1604 and 35 have been long drawn out multi-year, multi-phase affairs but there is progress. Austin will get to experience another slice of highway construction hell soon with the 35 expansion right through downtown.

You should stop in there. It's fabulous. I have a ranch just down the road on 165 and go there frequently.

I like the hummingbird cake and lemon bars they best. I usually just get an assortment. It's all been good.
