This weekend I drove to College Station to participate in an event called "Rally to the Guidons," in which former members of the Corps of Cadets join the traditional pre-game march-in into Kyle Field. Sponsored by the Corps of Cadets Association, this event has been held for several years, but this is the first one I have attended.
There were about 700 former cadets present. It was a lot of fun. We formed up near the Commons, which in my day was an empty field where we played football after class. The band led off from the Corps dorms area, followed by the rest of the Corps, and then by us. My class, the class of '71, had so many sign up that we were able to have our own block in the column of march.
It was hard to stay in step because of all the noise outside the stadium (I'm sure age and lack of practice had nothing to do with it!), but it became easier when we got into the stadium and could hear the band. A great many well-wishers were lined up along the route to watch the Corps, and they were very appreciative of us older folk as well, cheering and applauding us as we went by.
It was good to see familiar faces and to march around Kyle Field again. If you were in the Corps, I recommend that you do it once.
