Today my BDE recognized my bad assery and awarded me an AAM. Well, as soon as the award was pinned to my chest and the ceremony was over, a CPT approached me and took the medal back. Sequester.

I always had to being my own medall/deviseto a pinning.

I've had to do that too but this was a surprise to me. Kinda last second like an impact award.

Presentation medals aren't unusual, if you are enlisted they should provide you with the box set, if not the S1 isn't doing his job.

Back when I was in the Army, they would pin the medal on you and then give you the presentation box with the ribbon and lapel pin in it.

Don't you Army guy's just give away medals like they are candy?

Ha! Yeah, units pretty much give everyone an award just for deploying. I've seen units get blanketed with BSM w/ V. DA has cracked down on the fluff but everyone still gets a ARCOM. There are still Soldiers that get awarded for going above and beyond but if you see a guy with two medals and two deployments, they're "you deployed" awards. It's crap but it is what it is. The Army also awards Soldiers when they PCS to another duty station or honorably get out of the Army. This one for me however was not a deployment award but was during a training rotation.
